Assurance of Salvation / Doctrine of Eternal security/ PERSEVERANCE OF THE SAINTS

? PICTURE
DOUBT PICTURE

Satan will try to get you to doubt your salvation.

He will cause you to wonder if you really are a Christian, and tell you that because you do not feel any different than before, nothing reallyhappened.

And then, when you sin, Satan is quick to sow the seeds of doubt by telling you that "Christians don't sin, so you must not be saved!"

Don't be surprised at this. He will come, and he will try to make you doubt whether you are saved or not.

One thing that you should always remember is that now that you are saved, Satan is going to do all he can to get God's word away from you and out of your life.

He hates God's word, because he knows it is true, and everything God has said will come to pass, (including the Lord keeping his word with you in forgiving your sins and giving you eternal life).

Don’t worry though!

God's word will never pass away Matthew 24:35 and God will never lie to you. Hebrews 6:18 You believed God's word! Continue to believe God's word!

Matthew 24:35 KJV 1900
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
Hebrews 6:18 KJV 1900
That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:

Remember what our Lord Jesus said about Satan? In the same verse Jesus said John 8:44

John 8:44 KJV 1900
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

What is meant by Assurance?

By “assurance of salvation” we mean the intellectual and spiritual certainty that you belong to God, and that you possess (right now) eternal salvation. John 10:27-28

John 10:27–28 KJV 1900
My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

A. Look up: 2 Timothy 1:12

2 Timothy 1:12 KJV 1900
For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.

The “key words” in this verse are K _ _ _ and P _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

B. Look up: 1 John 5:13

1 John 5:13 KJV 1900
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

1. On the basis of this verse of Scripture, would you say God wants you to have

assurance of salvation? Yes or No? _______

2. What word in this verse indicates this? “_ _ _ _”

Why do I need Assurance of Salvation?

A. Assurance brings us _ _ _. 1 John 1:4

1 John 1:4 KJV 1900
And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

B. Assurance brings us C _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ before God. 1 John 3:19-21

1 John 3:19–21 KJV 1900
And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

C. Assurance brings us C _ _ _ _ _ _ of heart. Colossians 2:2

Colossians 2:2 KJV 1900
That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ;

D. Assurance brings us _______________________ James 1:8 (Use your own words.)

James 1:8 KJV 1900
A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

E. Assurance enables us to O _ _ _ _ _ _ _the world. 1 John 5:4,5

1 John 5:4 KJV 1900
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1 John 5:5 KJV 1900
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

F. Assurance enables us to effectively serve the Lord by telling others about Jesus.

Read the following Scriptures: John 1:40, 41; John 4:28, 29; Acts 16:10

What is the BASIS for our Assurance of Salvation?

Many Christians base their Assurance of Salvation on personal FEELINGS.

The problem with this is that feelings change. One day you may feel saved; the next day, through circumstances, you may not feel saved.

You have something MORE than feelings to go by - the UNCHANGING (inerrant) word of God. Base what you believe on what God has said, not how you feel.

Look up 1 John 5:11, 12 Write this Scripture out in full.

1 John 5:11 KJV 1900
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
1 John 5:12 KJV 1900
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

Circle the following two words in the above verses: “Record" and "Hath”

Conscious and Unconscious

When Hudson Taylor was staying in the home of a friend on one occasion, his host asked him, "But are you always conscious of abiding in Christ?" "While sleeping last night," replied Mr. Taylor, "did I cease to abide in your home because I was unconscious of the fact?"

There are three grounds for your assurance:

A. The PERSONof God!

According to Titus 1:2, God cannot _ _ _. God said it! That settles it! If the Lord will not

Titus 1:2 KJV 1900
In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

keep His own words (which He does) then how can He hold us to our words that we speak? Matthew 12:36, 37

Matthew 12:36 KJV 1900
But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.
Matthew 12:37 KJV 1900
For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

The Lord has Integrity!

B. The PROMISE of God!

1. According to John 5:24, God says I _ _ _ _ everlasting life, I _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ come into condemnation.

John 5:24 KJV 1900
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

2. According to John 6:37, because I came to Jesus Christ, He will in _ _ _ _ _ _cast me out.

John 6:37 KJV 1900
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

3. According to Romans 10:13, those who call upon the name of the Lord _ _ _ _ _ be saved.

Romans 10:13 KJV 1900
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

These are just a sample of the certain truths, put in writing, by the One and True God "Who Cannot Lie". The Bible is indeed "God's words.” Proverbs 3:5, 6

Proverbs 3:5 KJV 1900
Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; And lean not unto thine own understanding.
Proverbs 3:6 KJV 1900
In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths.

C. The PRESENCEof God

1. According to Romans 5:5, when we are saved, “...the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ which is _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. So, who dwells in us after we are saved? God the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. 2 Timothy 1:14

Romans 5:5 KJV 1900
And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.
2 Timothy 1:14 KJV 1900
That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.

2. According to Romans 8:16, the Spirit of God bears _ _ _ _ _ _ _ with our spirit that we are in fact God's children. See also the first part of 1 John 5:10.

Romans 8:16 KJV 1900
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
1 John 5:10 KJV 1900
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

How may I KNOW that I am Saved?

"These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may KNOW that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God."

1 John 5:13

1 John 5:13 KJV 1900
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

A. I Know I am saved because I _ _ _ _ _ _ed on the Lord Jesus Christ. Acts 16:31

Acts 16:31 KJV 1900
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

B. I Know I am saved because I _ _ _ _ the Son. 1 John 5:12

1 John 5:12 KJV 1900
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

C. I Know I am saved because I have a love for the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. 1 John 3:14

1 John 3:14 KJV 1900
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

D. I Know I am saved because I desire to keep God's _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

1 John 2:3; 3:24

1 John 2:3 KJV 1900
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments.
1 John 3:24 KJV 1900
And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.

E. I Know I am saved because I desire to turn from the W _ _ _ _ and all of its lusts, and do the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. 1 John 2:15-17

1 John 2:15–17 KJV 1900
Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

F. I Know I am saved because I am O_ _ _ _ _ _ _ ing the world. 1 John 4:4; 5:4,5

1 John 4:4 KJV 1900
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
1 John 5:4 KJV 1900
For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
1 John 5:5 KJV 1900
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

G. I Know I am saved because I have the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ of the Spirit within. 1 John 5:10

1 John 5:10 KJV 1900
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

H. I Know I am saved because I _ _ _ _ _ _ _ that _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ is _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. 1 John 4:2

1 John 4:2 KJV 1900
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

I. I Know I am saved because I believe the _ _ _ _ _ _ that God gave of _ _ _ _ _ _. (The record is "The Bible" "The word of God") 1 John 5:10

1 John 5:10 KJV 1900
He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

J. I Know I am saved because I _ _ _ _ _ _ _ the _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. ("The Bible" "The word of God") 1 John 5:13; 1 Peter 1:23-25

1 John 5:13 KJV 1900
These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
1 Peter 1:23–25 KJV 1900
Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

K. I Know I am saved because I am honest with the Lord about my sin's, and _ _ _ _ _ _ _

_ _ _ _ _ _ to Him. Then he _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ me and _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ me. 1 John 1:9,10

1 John 1:9 KJV 1900
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
1 John 1:10 KJV 1900
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.

God Would Be Greater Loser

The old Scottish lady was right. When she was visited by a very young minister who was short on experience, she held fast to her firm assurance of her safety in Christ. "But just suppose that after all God should let you sink into Hell?" said the minister. "He would lose more than I would," came the firm answer to faith. "All I would lose would be my own soul, but He would lose His good name." Donald Grey Barnhouse

What BRINGS Assurance of Salvation into my life?

It is possible you may have doubts from time to time. Just remember that Satan is a LIAR (John 8:44), and his first recorded words in the Bible were casting doubt upon God's words (Genesis 3:1).

John 8:44 KJV 1900
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:44 KJV 1900
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
John 8:44 KJV 1900
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
Genesis 3:1 KJV 1900
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Genesis 3:1 KJV 1900
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Genesis 3:1 KJV 1900
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?

Here are some ways you can get assurance, or deepen your assurance in what God has said, and what He has done for you.

A. Learn the word of God

Your salvation is based upon what God has said - not upon how you think or feel. Thus, it is important for you to read and study the Bible. Read: 2 Timothy 3:14,15

2 Timothy 3:14 KJV 1900
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;
2 Timothy 3:15 KJV 1900
And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

B. Thank God for His gift of salvation

According to Romans 6:23, you have received the Gift of _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _. Have you thanked God for this gift yet? Thanksgiving is evidence of faith.

Romans 6:23 KJV 1900
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Read: 2 Corinthians 9:15

2 Corinthians 9:15 KJV 1900
Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.

C. Make a Public Testimony before others

a. Have you told someone that you have trusted the Lord Jesus Christ? Look

at 1 John 4:15 and see the relationship between confessing Christ and Assurance.

1 John 4:15 KJV 1900
Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God.

b. Read: Matthew 10:32 and Romans 10:9,10

Matthew 10:32 KJV 1900
Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
Romans 10:9 KJV 1900
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
Romans 10:10 KJV 1900
For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

One way you can confess Christ publicly is to come forward in the "invitation" in one of your church services. The Pastor will gladly introduce you to the Church.

D. Attend church services as much as possible

Fellowshipping with your Brothers and Sisters in Christ will encourage you. Many of them have experienced the same doubts you may have. Hebrews 10:25 commands this, while Hebrews 10:22 talks about assurance.

Hebrews 10:25 KJV 1900
Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
Hebrews 10:22 KJV 1900
Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

E. Live a righteous life

Sometimes a full assurance does not come until God sees we mean business for Him. According to Isaiah 32:17, the effect of _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ is quietness and

Isaiah 32:17 KJV 1900
And the work of righteousness shall be peace; And the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

_ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ for _ _ _ _.

"Peace and Assurance is based upon believing God's promises, not your feelings"

What happens if I Sin?

A. Look up: 1 John 1:8. Is it possible for a Christian to sin? ________________________.

1 John 1:8 KJV 1900
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

B. Look up: 1 John 2:1. Does God want a Christian to sin? ________________________.

1 John 2:1 KJV 1900
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

C. Look up: 1 John 1:9. If a Christian sin’s, what is the one thing we are to do about it?

1 John 1:9 KJV 1900
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

C _ _ _ _ _ _ it to God.

D. Look up: 1 John 2:1 again. When I sin, who appears before God the Father in heaven on my behalf? _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ the Righteous.

1 John 2:1 KJV 1900
My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:

E. Look up: 1 John 1:6,7. In your own words what does a Christian lose if he sins?

1 John 1:6 KJV 1900
If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth:
1 John 1:7 KJV 1900
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.

Can I ever lose my Salvation?

A. John 10:28 says we shall _ _ _ _ _ perish.

John 10:28 KJV 1900
And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

B. John 10:29 says no man is _ _ _ _ to remove us from God's hand.

John 10:29 KJV 1900
My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand.

C. John 6:37 says God will in _ _ _ _ _ _ cast out those who come to Christ.

John 6:37 KJV 1900
All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

D. John 6:39 says the responsibility of keeping us saved is the Lord's, not ours, and that Christ can _ _ _ _ nothing.

John 6:39 KJV 1900
And this is the Father’s will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

E. John 5:24 says the kind of life I now have is _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

John 5:24 KJV 1900
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

F. Romans 8:38,39 says that nothing can _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ us from the love of Christ.

Romans 8:38 KJV 1900
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
Romans 8:39 KJV 1900
Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

G. 1 Peter 1:5 says we are _ _ _ _ by the _ _ _ _ _ of God.

1 Peter 1:5 KJV 1900
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

H. Jude 24 says Christ is able to _ _ _ _ us from _ _ _ _ _ _ _.

Jude 24 KJV 1900
Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

I. Philippians 1:6 says that Christ will continue His good _ _ _ _ in us until the _ _ _ of Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:6 KJV 1900
Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:

J. Ephesians 1:13 says our salvation has been _ _ _ _ _ _ with that holy Spirit of Promise.

Ephesians 1:13 KJV 1900
In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,

K. Ephesians 2:8 says that our salvation is the _ _ _ _ of God. A gift taken back by the giver is no gift.

Ephesians 2:8 KJV 1900
For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:

L. Ephesians 2:9 says that we have done nothing to gain salvation. If we have done nothing to gain it - we can do nothing to lose it!

Ephesians 2:9 KJV 1900
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

M. According to Ephesians 2:2,3 and 1 John 3:10, before we were saved, we were in the control of Satan. Now that we are saved, we have a new relationship with God.

Ephesians 2:2 KJV 1900
Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Ephesians 2:3 KJV 1900
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
1 John 3:10 KJV 1900
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother.

God is our heavenly _ _ _ _ _ _. Romans 8:15

Romans 8:15 KJV 1900
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Christians are the _ _ _ _ of God. 1 John 3:1

1 John 3:1 KJV 1900
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

In our earthly family, when a child does wrong, his parents do not cast him out of the family and disown him. They will correct and chasten their son- but he is still their son and a member of that family.

When a Christian sin’s, he is not cast out of God's family, thus losing his salvation. However, like any loving father. God will _ _ _ _ _ _ _ the erring Christian. Hebrews 12:6

Hebrews 12:6 KJV 1900
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.

"Blessed ASSURANCE, JESUS IS MINE,

O, What a fore-taste of glory divine,

HEIR OF SALVATION, purchase of God,

Born of His Spirit, washed in His Blood."

A Welsh minister, beginning his sermon, leaned over the pulpit and said with a solemn air.

“Friends, I have a question to ask. I cannot answer it. You cannot answer it. If an angel from heaven were here, he could not answer it. If a devil from hell were here, he could not answer it.” Every eye was fixed on the speaker, who proceeded. "The question is this, "How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation..." Hebrews 2:3a

Hebrews 2:3a KJV 1900
How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

READING ASSIGNMENT:

If you have finished reading the Gospel of John, now read 1 John. This Book is found towards the end of the New Testament

MEMORIZATION:

Try to memorize: 1 John 5:11,12

1 John 5:11 KJV 1900
And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
1 John 5:12 KJV 1900
He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

SIX EVIDENCES OF SALVATION

EVIDENCES OF SALVATION

TO STRENGTHEN OUR COMMITMENT

Many Christians have doubts about salvation because they do not understand what actually takes place at the time of salvation. Salvation results in a growing relationship in which we become more and more conscious of God's words and ways by obedience to the promptings of God the Holy Ghost. The following evidences are God's ways of reassuring us that a new relationship exists between Himself and us.

A New Love for Scripture! 1 Peter 2:2

1 Peter 2:2 KJV 1900
As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:

A New Desire to be like Jesus Christ! Romans 8:29

Romans 8:29 KJV 1900
For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

A New Social Pressure from those convicted by you’re changed life! 1 Peter 4:3-5

1 Peter 4:3–5 KJV 1900
For the time past of our life may suffice us to have wrought the will of the Gentiles, when we walked in lasciviousness, lusts, excess of wine, revellings, banquetings, and abominable idolatries: Wherein they think it strange that ye run not with them to the same excess of riot, speaking evil of you: Who shall give account to him that is ready to judge the quick and the dead.

A New Love for Other Christians! 1 John 3:14

1 John 3:14 KJV 1900
We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

EXPECT TO SUFFER It is the key to spiritual growth. Prepare for it by memorizing Philippians 1:29; Romans 5:3; I Peter 1:6; 2:19-24; 3:14.

Philippians 1:29 KJV 1900
For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;
Romans 5:3 KJV 1900
And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
1 Peter 1:6 KJV 1900
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
1 Peter 2:19–24 KJV 1900
For this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience toward God endure grief, suffering wrongfully. For what glory is it, if, when ye be buffeted for your faults, ye shall take it patiently? but if, when ye do well, and suffer for it, ye take it patiently, this is acceptable with God. For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: Who did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth: Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
1 Peter 3:14 KJV 1900
But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;

MEMORIZE, VISUALIZE, AND PERSONALIZE the character of Christ in Matthew 5:1-12; Galatians 5:22-24; 2 Peter 1:3-7

Matthew 5:1–12 KJV 1900
And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
Galatians 5:22–24 KJV 1900
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.
2 Peter 1:3–7 KJV 1900
According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

An Enhanced Awareness of Right and Wrong! Hebrews 5:13-14

Hebrews 5:13–14 KJV 1900
For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you. Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven. Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Therefore if thou bring thy gift to the altar, and there rememberest that thy brother hath ought against thee; Leave there thy gift before the altar, and go thy way; first be reconciled to thy brother, and then come and offer thy gift. Agree with thine adversary quickly, whiles thou art in the way with him; lest at any time the adversary deliver thee to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and thou be cast into prison. Verily I say unto thee, Thou shalt by no means come out thence, till thou hast paid the uttermost farthing. Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. And if thy right hand offend thee, cut it off, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. It hath been said, Whosoever shall put away his wife, let him give her a writing of divorcement: But I say unto you, That whosoever shall put away his wife, saving for the cause of fornication, causeth her to commit adultery: and whosoever shall marry her that is divorced committeth adultery. Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths: But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne: Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King. Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black. But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away. Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven. Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly. And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him. After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness! No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you. Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened. Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone? Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent? If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.
Romans 10:9–13 KJV 1900
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
1 Corinthians 10:13 KJV 1900
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1 John 1:9 KJV 1900
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Galatians 2:20 KJV 1900
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
Luke 9:23 KJV 1900
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

~What happens to the sinner at Salvation~

Justification

The declaration that a man is righteous when he is not.

Romans 3:24-28; 4:5,25; 5:1,9,16; 5:18; 8:30-33; 1 Corinthians 4:4, 6:11; Galatians 2:16,17; Titus 3:7

Romans 3:24–28 KJV 1900
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
Romans 4:5 KJV 1900
But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.
Romans 4:25 KJV 1900
Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
Romans 5:1 KJV 1900
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
Romans 5:9 KJV 1900
Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.
Romans 5:16 KJV 1900
And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.
Romans 5:18 KJV 1900
Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.
Romans 8:30–33 KJV 1900
Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified. What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things? Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God’s elect? It is God that justifieth.
1 Corinthians 4:4 KJV 1900
For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
1 Corinthians 6:11 KJV 1900
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Galatians 2:16 KJV 1900
Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
Galatians 2:17 KJV 1900
But if, while we seek to be justified by Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of sin? God forbid.
Titus 3:7 KJV 1900
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Redemption

The payment made to buy the sinner back from the wrath of God. Sin is put away and completely removed from the sinner. Sins no longer exist.

Romans 3:24; 8:23; 1 Corinthians 1:30; Ephesians 1:7,14; 4:30; Colossians 1:14; Hebrews 9:12,15

Romans 3:24 KJV 1900
Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
Romans 8:23 KJV 1900
And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
1 Corinthians 1:30 KJV 1900
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
Ephesians 1:7 KJV 1900
In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
Ephesians 1:14 KJV 1900
Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.
Ephesians 4:30 KJV 1900
And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
Colossians 1:14 KJV 1900
In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
Hebrews 9:12 KJV 1900
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Hebrews 9:12 KJV 1900
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Hebrews 9:12 KJV 1900
Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
Hebrews 9:15 KJV 1900
And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.

Propitiation

The price paid to satisfy the demands of an angry God against sin. The difference between redemption and propitiation is that in redemption the payment is made; In propitiation the payment is accepted by God and appeases, or placates, His anger. He is completely satisfied with the payment He received.

Romans 3:25; 1 John 2:2; 4:10

Romans 3:25 KJV 1900
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
1 John 2:2 KJV 1900
And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
1 John 4:10 KJV 1900
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

Remission

The payment for sin is applied to your account, and you are forgiven only the debt that you owed. With Remission, sin is forgiven only, but not taken away and completely removed. It still exists and needs dealt with. This is why before the Crucifixion Old Testament saints went to Paradise rather than Heaven with the Lord. After the Crucifixion, not only is Remission forgiving sinners, but Redemption by Jesus’ Blood Redeems the sinner completely from the sin and it no longer exists at the New Birth. Acts 10:43; Romans 3:25; Hebrews 9:22; 10:15-20

Acts 10:43 KJV 1900
To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
Romans 3:25 KJV 1900
Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
Hebrews 9:22 KJV 1900
And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission.
Hebrews 10:15–20 KJV 1900
Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them; And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more. Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

Expiation

The act of purging (burning out) or cleansing of sin. Sin is taken away, not merely forgiven, based upon the actions of Christ on our behalf.

Colossians 2:10-14; Hebrews 1:3; 10:7-14

Colossians 2:10–14 KJV 1900
And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power: In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
Hebrews 1:3 KJV 1900
Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;
Hebrews 10:7–14 KJV 1900
Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

Imputation

The act of God whereby He charges the sinner's sins to Jesus Christ, and whereby He charges the righteousness of Jesus Christ to the sinner.

Psalms 32:2; Romans 4:11-25; 5:13; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; James 2:23

Psalm 32:2 KJV 1900
Blessed is the man unto whom the Lord imputeth not iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no guile.
Romans 4:11–25 KJV 1900
And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also: And the father of circumcision to them who are not of the circumcision only, but who also walk in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised. For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. For if they which are of the law be heirs, faith is made void, and the promise made of none effect: Because the law worketh wrath: for where no law is, there is no transgression. Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, (As it is written, I have made thee a father of many nations,) before him whom he believed, even God, who quickeneth the dead, and calleth those things which be not as though they were. Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations; according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be. And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sara’s womb: He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness. Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
Romans 5:13 KJV 1900
(For until the law sin was in the world: but sin is not imputed when there is no law.
2 Corinthians 5:17–21 KJV 1900
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
James 2:23 KJV 1900
And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

What happens to the sinner at Salvation (Continued)

Regeneration

The act of salvation in which the Holy Ghost enters the sinner and gives him new life by a new birth. A new spirit able to respond to the Holy Ghost is created within the sinner.

John 3:1-19; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Titus 3:4-6; 1 Peter 1:

John 3:1–19 KJV 1900
There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be? Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness. If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things? And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV 1900
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Titus 3:4–6 KJV 1900
But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
1 Peter 1 KJV 1900
Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations: That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. Of which salvation the prophets have inquired and searched diligently, who prophesied of the grace that should come unto you: Searching what, or what manner of time the Spirit of Christ which was in them did signify, when it testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ, and the glory that should follow. Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy. And if ye call on the Father, who without respect of persons judgeth according to every man’s work, pass the time of your sojourning here in fear: Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you, Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God. Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away: But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.

Reconciliation

The act whereby two warring parties (you and God) are brought together in peace.

Romans 11:15; 2 Corinthians 5:18-20; Colossians 1:20-22; Hebrews 2:17

Romans 11:15 KJV 1900
For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?
2 Corinthians 5:18–20 KJV 1900
And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation. Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ’s stead, be ye reconciled to God.
Colossians 1:20–22 KJV 1900
And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:
Hebrews 2:17 KJV 1900
Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people.

Spiritual Circumcision

The act of the Holy Ghost that divides the new nature in the Christian from his body of sinful flesh, so that no sin done in the flesh can affect the new spirit.

Romans 6; Philippians 3:3; Colossians 2:11-13

Romans 6 KJV 1900
What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection: Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin. For he that is dead is freed from sin. Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness. For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Philippians 3:3 KJV 1900
For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.
Colossians 2:11–13 KJV 1900
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;

Adoption

The act whereby God takes a sinner and puts him into the family of God upon salvation. Romans 8:15,23; Galatians 4:5; Ephesians 1:5

Romans 8:15 KJV 1900
For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Romans 8:23 KJV 1900
And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
Galatians 4:5 KJV 1900
To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.
Ephesians 1:5 KJV 1900
Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,

Sanctification

The act whereby God sets a saved sinner apart, so that, from then on, he is dealt with as a son instead of as a stranger.

Acts 26:18; Romans 15:16; 1 Corinthians 1:30; 6:11; 2 Thessalonians 2:13; 2 Timothy 2:21; Hebrews 2:11; 10:10,14,29; 12:5-8; Jude 1:1

Acts 26:18 KJV 1900

Romans 15:16 KJV 1900
That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.
1 Corinthians 1:30 KJV 1900
But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
1 Corinthians 6:11 KJV 1900
And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
2 Thessalonians 2:13 KJV 1900
But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.
Hebrews 2:11 KJV 1900
For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Hebrews 10:10 KJV 1900
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Hebrews 10:14 KJV 1900
For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
Hebrews 10:29 KJV 1900
Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Hebrews 12:5–8 KJV 1900
And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
Jude 1 KJV 1900
Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:

Glorification

The ultimate end of the saved sinner whereby he is made completely like Jesus Christ and given an inheritance with Him in His kingdom.

Romans 8:30; 1 Corinthians 13:51-58; 2 Corinthians 4:17; Ephesians 5:27; Colossians 1:27; 3:4; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Titus 2:13

To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory:
Colossians 3:4 KJV 1900
When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory.
1 Thessalonians 4:13–18 KJV 1900
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
Titus 2:13 KJV 1900
Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

"And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ."

1 Thessalonians 5:23 KJV 1900
