A. God chose His children

1. foreknew means: God set His affection on His children before the foundation of the world.

2 Thessalonians 2:13 NASB95
But we should always give thanks to God for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God has chosen you from the beginning for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and faith in the truth.

2. Scripture records many of God’s choices.

Deuteronomy 7:6 NASB95
“For you are a holy people to the Lord your God; the Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for His own possession out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth.
Jeremiah 1:4–5 NASB95
Now the word of the Lord came to me saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

3. Christian, rest in knowing that you’re saved only by God’s grace.

B. God prepared the path for His children.

1. predestined means: To decide upon beforehand, to predetermine to be something.

Ephesians 1:5 NASB95
He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,

2. Being like Jesus is the good God promised.

1 Corinthians 15:49 NASB95
Just as we have borne the image of the earthy, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.

But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.

3. This is all to glorify Jesus.

C. God summons His children.

1. called means: To choose for receipt of a special benefit or experience.

God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called,

2. God’s call doesn’t make your choice meaningless.

D. God makes His children righteous.

1. justified means: God declares a person “Not guilty” by reason of faith in the person and work of Jesus Christ.

He made Him who knew no sin to be sin on our behalf, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

E. God finishes the good work in His children.

1. glorified means: To cause to have splendid greatness, clothe in splendor, glorify.

John 6:39 NASB95
“This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of all that He has given Me I lose nothing, but raise it up on the last day.

Christians can be confident that all things work together for good because God guaranteed glory.
