Mark 9:2-9

Introduction
When Jesus gives Peter, James and John a glimpse of His Glory…there are 12 disciples but he only takes 3. He takes the 3 that have been riding with him through thick and thin.
Every time you look around Peter, James and John were there…
When Jesus healed Jairus’ daughter- Peter, James and John were there.
When he was in the Garden of Gethsemane, they were there.
they had developed an inner circle around Jesus, and because they were so close to Jesus, Jesus revealed more to them they he had the others.
Application: If you want to see His glory you gotta be close.
He does not reveal his Glory to everybody.
It is believed that he takes them on the top of Mt. Tabor - Also known as the Mount of transfiguration. It is notable for us to consider that in times past, when God was about to do something miraculous he chose a mountain to do it on.
He is Holy King- Mark 9:3 “and his clothes became radiant, intensely white, as no one on earth could bleach them.”
White is the color the color of purity
In Jesus there is no blemish, no stain, no spot, no impurity
and even though in Him was no sin, he was perfect in every way he was still human in every way. And this Human God, was about to face the challenge of a lifeline.
He was about to take on the sins of the world…and he needed some strength.
What is it that you’re about to take on?
a new job, a new relationship, a baby, a new house, a new level of ministry, whatever it is you need some strength.
He was Friendly King- Mark 9:4 “And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.”
Elijah- was known as the greatest prophet to ever live
Moses- Represented the Law of God.
But why did they appear on this mountain- they are dead and have been dead for centuries.
To testify that Jesus is the son of God
To Show The friendliness of Christ
Elijah and Moses were faithful and committed, but they were far from perfect. Moses murdered a man. After God gave Elijah a great victory over the prophets of Baal, he feared for his life. He ran away into the desert and asked God to kill him because he didn’t want to live anymore. These men were sinful and flawed as we are. And yet in God’s kingdom, they have direct access to talk with Jesus face to face.
Application: There is still hope for those of us who have failed.
Jesus is a Powerful King. He will rule a kingdom that will never end, a kingdom greater than any other that has ever been seen. In the gospels we saw a glimpse of some of Jesus’ power, power that made His disciples ask each other “Who is this?” –
He walked on water.
He calmed the storm.
He raised people from the dead.
