In Mark 6:1-32, Jesus sends the twelve disciples out on a mission: to proclaim and perform the kingdom of God. First, he goes on a mission to his hometown of Nazareth, where he's rejected as a known guy. Jesus sends the disciples out with very specific instructions: no food, no cloak, no money - just the clothes on their back and the shoes on their feet. Herod gets wind of what Jesus and his disciples are up to, and we're reminded of what happens when the powers of this world notice the kingdom
