Redeeming the time means that we no longer live on “autopilot”.
We live diligently and purposefully to reclaim time from acting as an agent of decay to an agent of devotion.
All redeemed time is time spent in the Presence of God.
Today I want to show you how Living respectfully and in obedient submission help us accomplish this.
How do we Redeem the time through Respect and submission?
That is the question we will answer today.
Authority.
God has ordained 3 institutions on earth that are specifically created to remind us of God’s involvement and presence in every aspect of our lives.
Basically you spend all your time engaging in these 3 institutions.
So if you can redeem the time in each of these, you will be redeeming the time practically all the time!
Each of these institutions require our submission and each time we submit we redeem the time.
Each act of submission is simultaneously an act of time redemption.
Respect and submission to these 3 God given institutes will powerfully manifest God;s presence.
1: The Family.
1: The Family.
God is the author of the family.
He created it all the way back in Genesis:
18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
Your family is where most of your time is spent.
Your family is where most of your relationships exist.
Between your wife, husband, children and parents: Your family takes a lot of time - time that needs to be redeemed!
We redeem the time spent with our families by being obedient in submission and in duty.
The Family governs all your relationships and responsibilities always conforming them to obedience by submission and devotion.
22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
Wives: Every time you submit to your husband, is a time redeemed.
25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Husbands: Every time you show love and exercise patience is a time redeemed.
1 Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.
Children: Every time you submit in obedience it is time redeemed.
I honestly don't think people realize this because if they did they would absolutely capitilize on the opportunity.
Wives: Why be so unwilling to submit to your husbands when the act of submission is an act of redemption of your time?
Husbands: Why remain bitter, silent and angry when loving and being patient with your wives is an act of redeeming the precious time you have left?
Children: Obediently doing your chores, cleaning the yard or house is NOT time wasted! Its time Redeemed!
Every moment we submit to God’s purpose for the family, God’s rules for the family, God’s design for the family is a single moment that redeems a multitude of time.
2: The Church
2: The Church
The Church ensures the health of your spiritual life.
It covers all things faith related making sure that you correctly follow truth and not deception.
We are commanded to submit to its authority.
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
As your pastor, I am going make sure that you do not forget, forsake or neglect the Holy, Spiritual things of Christian faith and fellowship.
Why would you not take every opportunity to fellowship and attend?
No act of submission is ever waited:
The time spent getting here is redeemed
The time spent in attendance is redeemed.
The time spend in worship is redeemed.
The time spend hearing the Word is redeemed.
Every time you pray is time redeemed.
Every time you read, study scripture is time redeemed.
3: The Government.
3: The Government.
For many people this is a hard pill to swallow, but gag all you want, you will swallow this pill.
1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same:
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
5 Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake.
6 For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.
7 Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour.
This covers everything authority from Government all the way down to the boss you despise and hope gets hit by a double Decker bus.
If there is an authority over you, submission to that authority is an act of time redemption.
The government has a purpose. Its purpose is to threaten you with violence if you choose to act violently.
The Laws of a country exist to remind you and me of our rebellious sinful nature and conform it to obedience.
And when we do conform to the rules and laws we are doing so in an awareness that “No authority but God and all authorities that exist are ordained by God”.
This makes all obedient submission an act of submission unto God and thus is an act of time redemption.
Implications:
Implications:
Every time you see a speed limit sign - God is testing your submission to His Word.
To disregard is to disregard God; but to submit is to invite the awareness of God.
After all, unless there is a camera, how will the government know?
But its not the government you should fear.
Minister Cele might not see you run that red light, but God did.
The government covers our careers, civil duties and community responsibilities.
Making sure that we conduct ourselves in a lawful manner, without shame or fear.
The extra 10 minutes of travel because you submitted to the speed limit is time redeemed.
The hours spent doing proper paperwork is not a wastse of time: Its redeemed time!
The many hours of boring work meetings that could be done via a memo, are not wasted, in submission they are redeemed.
Conclusion.
Conclusion.
Are you at home? Then submission and devotion to your family redeems all home time.
Are you at church? Then submissiom and respect to your church redeems all church time.
Are you at work? Then submission to government redeems all work time.
