Paul has some instruction on the type of men and women we should want to be tonight.

Men

verses 2 & 6-8

Men, live as God has called you to live in his Word!

What does the world tell us is manly?

Let’s see what God’s Word says here!

2 Timothy 1:7 ESV

for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Young men, look for older men you can look up to. Who can be an example for you. Who love the Lord and love their families and work hard to provide for their home. Strive to become that kind of man. Don’t wait until you’re older, start trying to become a godly man now!

And we do it to shine a light for Jesus in the world!

Women

verses 3-5

Ladies, live as God has called you to live in his Word!

What does the world tell us is feminine?

Let’s see what God’s Word says here!

Since it’s Valentine’s Day, let’s dig into this husbands and wives thing for a second.

Read Eph5:22-33 husbands and wives section.

self controlled, love your husbands, love your wives, one of the most important ways you can love your husband or wife is by waiting for them.

Hebrews 13:4 ESV

Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.

1 Timothy 5:14 ESV

So I would have younger widows marry, bear children, manage their households, and give the adversary no occasion for slander.

This phrase “manage their households” is very familiar to me. I get told what to do at home and I try to do it so I don’t get in trouble!

Differences in roles does not mean unequal, look at the Godhead.

Young ladies, look for older women to be examples for you! Who love the Lord and love their families and work hard to take care of their home. Today strive to become that kind of godly woman!

Do it so that no one will speak negatively about God’s Word because of you!

Those under authority

verses 9-10

Sons, daughters, students, athletes, respect your leaders in a way that points to Jesus.

Ephesians 6:6 ESV

not by the way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart,

All this so that the Gospel will be adorned by our lives, beautifully decorated by our lives. So that others will be drawn to Jesus.

If persons refuse to come to Christ, let it be the message they say no to, not the messenger who, because of a shameful life, clouds and even hides the purity of the Word of salvation. -Daniel Akin

If you don’t have a relationship with Jesus but you have seen the way that some of the people who do live, the way that they are, and you want to know more, I’d love to talk with you about that. All these good things we are supposed to be and to do are reflections of Him. The only good in me comes from Him! And only through Him can the bad in me be forgiven.
