Elijah's God and God's Elijah

Introduction:

Elijah had gone.

Had God departed also?

What mighty men of God have passed on to their reward, but God is not dead and the cause lives on.

ELIJAH’S GOD

1. He is a God who hides His people.

Psalm 27:5 NKJV

5 For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.

Ahab sought Elijah’s life and God hid him.

1 Kings 17:3 NKJV

3 “Get away from here and turn eastward, and hide by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.

2. He is a God who provides for His people.

1 Kings 17:4 NKJV

4 And it will be that you shall drink from the brook, and I have commanded the ravens to feed you there.”

3. He is a God who guides His people.

1 Kings 17:2 NKJV

2 Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying,

Psalm 37:5 NKJV

5 Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.

Proverbs 3:6 NKJV

6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

Proverbs 16:3 (NKJV)

3 Commit your works to the Lord, And your thoughts will be established.

II. GOD’S ELIJAH

We know where God is, but where is God’s Elijah? That is the man we are all looking for. Wherever you find God’s Elijah, you will find:

1. A man who prays

Elijah was preeminently a man of prayer.

Behold him on Mount Carmel praying for God to consume the sacrifice.

See him praying 7 times for rain.

Hear James say:

James 5:17 (KJV)

17 Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.

James 5:17 (NKJV)

17 Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months.

2. A man who obeys

God works through men.

We limit Him by our willingness to obey.

Elijah’s willingness to obey was wonderfully tested.

The command to hide at Cherith was a severe test.

How it tried his faith.

Would Ahab find him there?

It was only a few miles from the King’s palace!

5 So he went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan.

3. A man who stays

He stood his ground.

His motto was “No Surrender”

When God put him there he stayed until God gave the signal to move on.

To stand still often tests ones courage more than to advance.

Sometimes we must “Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord”

Daniel showed his faithfulness before the lions den…

God showed His faithfulness in the lions den.

Be faithful in the routine...

God will be faithful in the miraculous!
