I. Developing the Exegetical Big Idea:

Subject: being an imitator of God

Subject Question: How do Christians become Imitators of God?

Compliment: Christians become Imitators of God by walking in love, walking in purity, and walking in light.

Exegetical Big Idea in statement form: Paul speaking to the Ephesians, tells them to be imitators of God who walk in love, walk in purity and walk in light.

II. Exegetical Outline:

1. The Ephesian’s are imitators of God by walking in love.(1-2)

a. Walk in love by living like Christ.

b. Walk in love by offering one’s life to God.

c. Walk in love by living sacrificially.

2. The Ephesian’s are imitators of God by walking in purity. (3-6)

a. Walk in purity by abstaining from evil conduct.(3)

i. Evil conduct is sexual immorality (lust).

ii. Evil conduct is covetousness (greed).

b. Walk in purity by abstaining from evil conversation. (4)

i. Evil conversation is filthy talk.

ii. Evil conversation is foolish talk.

iii. Evil conversation is crude joking.

c. Walk in purity because evil conduct and conversation receive the wrath of God and no inheritance of the kingdom. (5-6)

3. The Ephesian’s are imitators of God by walking in light. (7-10)

a. Walk in light by not being involved with darkness (evildoers).(7-8)

b. Walking in light bears the fruit of light. (9)

i. The fruit of light is good.

ii. The fruit of light is right.

iii. The fruit of light is true.

c. Walking in light discerns what is pleasing to the Lord. (10)
