Hebrews 4:15–16 (KJV 1900): 15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Jesus Christ is our Representative(代表), our Intercessor(中保), our great High Priest before God’s throne. He was tempted in every way we are tempted, but he did not sin.
Romans 8:34 (KJV 1900): It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
Hebrews 2:17–18 (KJV 1900): 17 Wherefore in all things it behoved him to be made like unto his brethren, that he might be a merciful and faithful high priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. 18 For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.
Because Jesus Christ is before the throne of God as our representative and is making intercession for us. We ought to go boldly unto the throne of God. 我们当
Verse 16 say that we can two things.
1. The first is mercy. Mercy is not getting the punishment we deserve. When someone does something wrong but does not receive the punishment they deserve they receive mercy. We all need God’s mercy because we have all sinned.
Romans 3:9–10 (KJV 1900): 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:
But if we confess our sin the Jesus we are forgiven
1 John 1:9 (KJV 1900): 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God will forgive our sins; He will have mercy upon us. But we must come to the throne of grace and ask for mercy. We must acknowledge我们必须承认这样赦罪的怜恤只会从大祭司耶稣基督那里得来 that mercy comes only through Christ Jesus, the great High Priest. He and He alone knows our need for mercy; He and He alone bore our sins and paid our penalty惩罚与指责 and condemnation. He and He alone can represent us before God.
Ephesians 2:4 (KJV 1900): 4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
Titus 3:4–5 (KJV 1900): 5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
Beside 除了在我们信主时所蒙的怜恤以外the mercy we receive when we are saved, 在我们每次犯罪时我们都需要他的怜悯we need mercy each time we sin.
Many people when the sin they try to hide their sin. They don’t want people to know what they done. But when we do that we hurt ourselves.
Proverbs 28:13 (KJV 1900): 13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper:
But whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy
God doesn’t want us to try and hide our sin but rather he wants us to confess it and forsake it.
2. God not only has mercy towards us but also grace.
There are times we face trials that are not the result of sin but are in fact God’s will.
Jesus commanded his disciples to cross the Sea of Galilee when he knew that a storm would rise and that the disciples would be caught in the storm.
Jesus said in John 16:33 (KJV 1900): 33 These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Matthew 5:11–12 (KJV 1900): 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.
12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.
2 Timothy 3:12 (KJV 1900): 12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
When we live for Christ we should expect盼望遇见试炼与苦难 trials and tribulations. But we have the grace of God.
Grace is available to help us through Jesus Christ. No matter what confronts us—trial, trouble, tribulation, temptation—help is available救助是可得到的, the very help of God Himself天主他自己会救助! God’s grace will strengthen us to walk right through the trial and trouble. His grace will help us conquer克服并胜过各种环境和状况 and triumph over all circumstances and situations. 。Because Christ suffered the same trials, the same troubles, the same tribulations and temptations that we face today, he is able to help us overcome them.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV 1900): 9 And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
Philippians 4:13 (KJV 1900): 13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Philippians 4:19 (KJV 1900): 19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 13:6 (KJV 1900): 6 So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.
No matter what trials or tribulations we face we can always depend upon the grace of God to help us.
God has mercy to help when we sin, He has grace to help us in time of need, but we have to do something. We must go before the throne of Grace in prayer. Why do some people not avail themselves of the mercy and grace God offers?
Some people don’t want the mercy that God offers because they want to continue to sin. They choose their sin or their lifestyle over God. Many people hear the gospel but rather than trust in Jesus and the mercy he extends to them但他们不相信主并主所想赐给他们的怜恤, they reject Jesus and his mercy. They don’t want to change their lives. They love their sin more than they love God. The rich young ruler loved his possessions资财 more than he loved God. The Bible say in John that many of the chief rulers 许多官长喜欢世人的荣耀胜于喜欢天主的荣耀loved the praise of men more than then the praise of God.
John 12:42–43 (KJV 1900): 42 Nevertheless among the chief rulers also many believed on him; but because of the Pharisees they did not confess him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue: 43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
Some people because of the pride will not accept him. They think I can do it myself他们觉着他们可以自己来. I don’t need God’s help. They will try to do good works, pray, give money to the church and many other things to atone for their sins. All the good that we do can never atone for sin. It is only by Gods mercy that we can be saved.
Gods mercy is given to those who ask for it.
God’s grace is the same. It is only given to those who ask for it.
Some will think that they can make it on their own 自己能行and that they don’t need the grace and help that God offers.
In our spiritual life all failures are prayer failures. Many times we do not avail ourselves of the grace that God is offering because we do not pray. We do not go before the throne of grace.
Today and this semester will go to the throne of grace and obtain mercy. Will you go to the throne of grace and obtain获得 grace. Or will you choose to your own way and try to make it on your own.
