Music is an essential part of our worship of God.
David said in Acts 24:14: “But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:”
worship- λατρεύω- “a hired servant; to devote”; a latris is a “hired menial; a minister.” To render homage.
What, then, are the essential pillars in our worship of God?
SACRIFICE- Genesis 22:5: “And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.”
HOLINESS- Psalm 29:2: “Give unto the Lord the glory due unto his name; Worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness.” Psalm 96:9“O worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness: Fear before him, all the earth.” :
SINGING- Psalm 66:4: “All the earth shall worship thee, And shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.”
SPIRIT & TRUTH- John 4:23–24“But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” The word worship here is προσκυνέω and means, “to kiss; to fawn over; to prostrate; like a dog licking his master’s hand.” -spirit creates a distance from the physical and focuses on the spiritual -truth creates a focus on God, His person, work, and will Ask: Is your music true? Is it biblically-adherent? Powerful
REVERENCE- Acts 24:14: “But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets:”
Paul says in Acts 17:25: “Neither is worshipped with men’s hands, as though he needed any thing, seeing he giveth to all life, and breath, and all things;” The word worship here is the word θεραπεύω and means, “to heal; to serve.”
