Then Jesus arrived from Galilee at the Jordan, coming to John to be baptized by him.
The people are ready. The air is buzzing with anticipation. Not since the days of Ezra had so much of Israel turned back to God. The Prophet John was baptizing people, telling them to repent of their sins for the Messiah as finally coming.
Everyone is waiting for him. The King that will save them from oppression and injustice. That will destroy evil. That will restore their great nation. That will make Israel Great Again.
But no one sees him come. King Jesus does not enter the story as a king, but as a craftsman from a small country village.
And he doesnt come to save the world. At least not in the way that anyone is waiting for. Even John the Baptist himself was looking for the warrior to come on the scene. To throw their enemies into the fires. That was the whole reason that he was preparing the way.
Yet Jesus comes to the Jordan River for one reason.
