Text: Matthew 26:14-25.

Judas to Betray Jesus, Vs 14-16

vs 14-15 The glaring question, “Why did he do it?”
the only thing we know is his focus on money, John 12:4-7.
Judas’ name
Iscariot - Latin, for Sicarii (The Assassins) plausible, with the earthly king mindset. The Greek word for assassin is σικάριος
also, it is possible it has a connection to his hometown, Kerioth, Amos 2:2.
vs 15-16
30 pieces of silver
roughly 4 months wages
The price for letting an Ox gore a slave to death, Ex. 21:32. (Price of a dead slave) perhaps in response to a woman spending a years wage on him.
prophesied in Zechariah 11:12. a scene where Zechariah is playing an undesired Shepherd, (God).

Preparing For The Passover, Vs 17-25.

vs 17, day of preparation
sacrifice to be made
vs 18
Someone Jesus knew or Essene
Mark 14:12-15. Men didn't carry water jars
Gen. 24:14-20, John 4.
the Essene community was celibate men. they had to carry their own water
so, they must have entered the essene gate, where there was an essene quarter, to stay away from most people
they were renowned for their hospitality
this also made sense for Jesus, no enemies there. they were pacifists, opposed to the pharisees and Sadducees.
my time is at hand
what is “my time”
vs 19, prepared the passover
this would have included ridding the house of all leaven, had the wine (which would have been from the harvest of last year), bitter herbs, and dishes.
this was done in the upper room, also could be the place where the apostles would receive the Holy Spirit, house of John Mark
vs 21
Truly i say to you (6x)
Jesus knew, planned, for the Messiah to be betrayed (Ps. 41:9, 55:12-13)
vs 22
Literally, “It isnt me, is it?” looking for a negative reply
vs 23
vs 24
as it was written of Him (Ps. 41:9, 55:12-13)
