Romans 5:8

Happy Valentine’s Day!!!!!
This day is celebrated by couples, families, and friends! It is a holiday that celebrates love, but mostly it sort-of forces us to show our affection with cards, gifts, candy, etc.....
I want to explain this in a spiritual way......not so much a specific day to celebrate love, but a love we can embrace and then live out!
Jesus said in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
Most all of you know this verse, it is quoted by many, memorized in Sunday Schools.....but it is a powerful truth of the love of God!
Jesus explained this love......by describing what action displays love! It is an action that goes to all extremes for the purpose of the one that is loved’s good!
John 15:13–14 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”
Jesus knew full well that He would fulfill this truth about friendship and love on the cross, not very many days from this point.
He gave His life........because of His and His Father’s love for mankind........for His friends!
They were His friends because Jesus loved them! Just as He loves!
God the Son becoming as a human, living perfectly, however dying a sacrificial death as a lamb would, so that all those that call upon will be saved!
Safe from condemnation and separation from God forever!
One of the greatest aspects of God’s love through Jesus Christ is that it is not provoked by any action!
You do something good for somebody it is often done because of something that they are or have done for you!
But God’s show of love is different, it is shown to mankind without provocation!
Scripture says: Romans 3:11 “There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.”
Isaiah 31:1 “Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; And stay on horses, And trust in chariots, because they are many; And in horsemen, because they are very strong; But they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, Neither seek the Lord!”
That is important to understanding God..........listen to this verse.....
Romans 5:8 “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”
While we were yet sinners Jesus died for us........while we were against God and did not look to Him, did not call upon Him, He sent His Son to die for our eternal good!
This is the greatest love of all!
Jesus said, speaking about loving your enemies in Matthew 5:46–47 “For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?”
The worldly folks do the same! But the spiritual, the believers, God’s true faithful, love because God’s love is shed abroad in our hearts through the Holy Spirit!
God has showed us that He is love, by sending His Son to give His life for us!
1 John 4:9–10 “In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.”
