Introduction

Today we’re going to dive into a matter that is not only a hot topic in societal conversation, but also a very urgent matter for those who are still “unsure” what they believe.
I want start by establishing from the beginning that just like planet fitness, this is a judgement free zone.
What I mean by that is,
when I grew up in church, people would start to mention us living in the “end times” and dig into scripture, especially the book of revelation, and I would place the “this person is koo koo” tag on them. I still listened but I labeled them a koo koo.
I’m actually okay with you labeling me as a koo koo.
But please don’t follow today’s culture who will cancel you within 3 seconds of making a shallow judgement that i’m a weirdo and not take as urgent the urgent matter we’ll be digging more into today.
Matter of fact, the enemy wants you to think it’s weird.
He wants you to believe that ignoring this makes the most sense because it could take and cost you your entire life to see it. Somebody turn to the person next to you and tell em, “Ignorance is always bliss, until it ain’t.”(I hear Mac Miller, “the world is so smaaaaaaal, til it aint”)
But can i ask you, is that really a bad thing?
Is it a bad thing to choose to discipline your fleshly desires to a level of an ethical and moral character standard that may cause things currently causing pleasure in your life to end? Let me repeat that for the people in the back!…
What if I told you that understanding what we’ll be talking about today is the difference between you seeing life beyond the 100 years you live here on earth(if you’re lucky).
Do you want to hear what we’ll be talking about today? HAHA

The title of this message is - It’s time to close the door.

Turn to the person next to you again, or put it in the chat, tell them before we dive in, “It’s time to close the door.”

Main Point 1

Before I can properly explain what I mean by that statement, we must first do a critical piece of proper interpretation skills by understanding the definition of “Door” That I’m speaking about here. So let’s start there;
What is a door?
Silly question at first I know.
You didn’t come to church to go back to pre school and learn what a door is.
Hang with me, I promise it’ll make sense in the next 30 minutes.
So let me give you a quick definition of a door;
Moves on pivots of wood fastened in sockets above and below. They were fastened by a lock or by a bar. In the interior of Oriental houses, curtains were frequently used instead of doors. Also called: Doors; Doorway; Entryway; Narrow Gate
I know you’re like, “Jordan, we all know what a door is. Literally there’s doors everywhere.”
I knew you were gonna say that so I went and found a fun fact - ever wonder how many doors are typically in a home, exterior, interior, closet doors.
In a typical 3-bedroom house,
approximately 10-20 doors,(This number could be higher or lower based on the specific details of the house and its design.
As I continued to study doors in preparing for this I came to the conclusion that we should burn deep inside of all of us - we are using too many doors. We all know the typical 3 bedroom house sounds nice but most of us want/need more than 3 bedrooms.
That means you’re putting in more than 20 doors in any house bigger than 3 bedrooms.
You know how much 1 door costs? Don’t worry I did that research too, at Home Depot you can find and exterior single entry door for anywhere between $368 - $1,378
Why do you think there’s always a doors & windows Sales man.
Ya’ll get those sales guys coming in the middle of a nor’easter they’ll knock on your door just to ask if you’ve had new windows in the last 5 years. haha

Our door problem is so twisted that we built a system that preys on creating the unnecessary need for MORE DOORS. Or THE RIGHT door, FOR YOU!

Sounds a lot like culture today.
What do you believe about gay marriage?
What do you believe about racism?
What do you believe about the “end times”?
Just about anywhere you turn looking for an answer to these very socially hot topics, you can find a specific answer that fits your own personal narrative.
Before we get too tense on social topics lets keep looking into what a door is.
And not just ANY door. Believe it or not doors have evolved over thousands of years just as much as we as civilization has. CRAZY. Look at this graphic.
My favorite part of this door development timeline is when it says that Solomon chose to use olive wood overlayed with gold for the temple in jerusalem in 587 BC.
I want to look at a 1st century door. Believe it or not, the bible was written over 2,000 years ago and back in the context of the audience it was speaking to at that current time they didn’t have nearly the a DOOR EPIDEMIC we have today. (not a pandemic because if you go into oriental homes they still use curtains for interior doors. Pandemic means it’s crossed national lines.)
Now that we know the problem we have that doors are a commodity in todays society. To the point of making others rich by the simple sale of them.
Let’s investigate the PURPOSE of a door.
See What’s so interesting about doors when you start to research them is their seemingly irrelevance because they’re everywhere. But when you look at the purpose of that door, I mean it can be literal life or death.
The story that comes to mind just happened a few weeks ago, our son Liam just started walking. If anyone has a boy, specifically, because I also have a girl and she just was far more into imaginary play, where this dude is ON THE GO.
He’s always got somewhere to be. I get nervous when i hold him because he immediately points to start walking.
If you think about it though, becca said this ne day and it makes total practical sense, If you could have a giant gorilla pick you up and help you not only get to somewhere way fast than you can get there yourself, but can also give you a higher perspective of where you’re trying to go, AND get you there safely, I’m all in. I’d be doing the same thing! HAHA
So a couple weeks ago I was on boy duty. I LOVE Saturday’s with the Boiiis. We eat cookies, gram crackers, play piano, listen to great funk music. It’s always a good time.
This one weekend Justine decided the daycare needed new highchairs. A high chair is big even folded but 2 high chairs in 1 box, that was a big box. I decided I was going to be the good husband who not only takes in the cardboard package, but deboxes the package and puts together the high chairs. Idk maybe I thought I’d get lucky that night, which most likely worked haha
But as I’m cutting the cardboard I left the front door open while i cut a few more pieces.
there was a literal 30 second moment where Lucas in the other room says, “i’m fursty so bad.” Which being the Good dad go that I am go to immediately fulfill his request because he has CP or else he’d get up and get himself a drink.
In that 30 seconds exchange I made the new dad to a mobile boy mistake of leaving the front door open.
As I realized it was open I ran to the door and sure enough there’s Liam, halfway down the driveway. He was about a minute more of being unsupervised to be playing in traffic.
He was so cute though he just wanted to check out the outside world, he’s so curious when he gets outdoors I love it.
I eventually brought him in becuase winter in new england is cold. As I walked back through the front door back where I was cutting cardboard I said out loud to myself, I really just need to close the door.
Immediately after saying that, I could never unsee what God showed me next.
Ya’ll ready to read some scripture?!
Let’s start in Revelation
I’m here today to present to you 1 door.
There is only 1 way. It’s the right door.
It’s the only door you really need.
All the other doors you’ve been thinking you need to have, or options of doors you’ve been holding onto to go in and do what you want when you want.
