Verse 16- Paul arrives in Rome

Paul was permitted to have his own private lodging, he was under house arrest.

Verses 17-20 Paul addressed the Jewish Leaders of Rome

Paul calls a meeting with the Jewish leaders of Rome, He could not go to them so they came to Paul.

The meeting was two fold:

1. Paul told them the circumstances that lead to his arrest and the charges against him- WHICH WAS PREACHING THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST AND

2. CHRIST BEING THE PROMISED ONE- THE MESSIAH. Paul wanted to share the good news of Jesus Christ!

Verse 20 What is meant by “I am bound with this chain.”

That the Messiah had come!

Because of his conviction that Jesus of Nazareth was that long-awaited Messiah and because of Christ’s resurrection from the dead, Paul was adamant that his message and theology were consistent with Jewish hope through the ages.

Verses 21-22 The Jewish Leaders respond-

Verse 21- We have not heard of any negative report about you, Paul!

Verse 22- BUT, We have a strong desire to know what you think about about this sect of Jewish people that follow the one called CHRIST!

Verses 23-30 Paul responds and engages them all day!

Paul does the following:

1. Explained and Solemnly testified about the Kingdom of God. (in a grave and earnest manner)

2. Persuading them. (reasoning with, trying to convince them)

3. Paul used the word of God (the Law of Moses and the prophets)

**Some BELIEVED AND SOME DID NOT

Verse 25 indicates the an argument arose between the Jewish leaders and Paul had a final word for them out of Isaiah 6:9-10 (read verses 26-29)

Those Jews had heard the very word of God and had seen the spokesman of God, but because of stubbornness and pride, they had been unable to understand and perceive the deeper, life-changing implications of the divine revelation that was being extended to them. Rather than submitting to judgment by the truth, they had sat in judgment of truth. The great irony is that these Jews viewed themselves as religiously successful and slated for divine commendation, when in truth they were spiritually blind, deaf, and under divine condemnation!

**VERSE 30-31 GOD’S PURPOSE WILL ALWAYS BE FULFILLED! PAUL PREACHED FOR TWO YEARS IN ROME!
