Part 3
3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
5 But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
6 to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance godliness,
7 to godliness brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
8 For if these things are yours and abound, you will be neither barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
3 If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness,
14 These things I write to you, though I hope to come to you shortly;
15 but if I am delayed, I write so that you may know how you ought to conduct yourself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, Justified in the Spirit, Seen by angels, Preached among the Gentiles, Believed on in the world, Received up in glory.
And So to understand this Mystery of becoming godly we have to understand that a Shift took place between the old and the New testament.
God did not change between the Old and New Testament His goal has been the same from the beginning
Talk about the scrubbing board and the washing machine...
6 But now He has obtained a more excellent ministry, inasmuch as He is also Mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then no place would have been sought for a second.
8 Because finding fault with them, He says: “Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah—
9 not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord.
10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
So the mystery of becoming Godly is centered on the uniqueness of Jesus Christ, He is the master key to becoming Godly.
Talk about Sports Basket Ball Football Baseball Soccer ....
You take the ball out of any of these sports what the athletes do on the field of play is pointless.
You remove Jesus Christ out of the Mystery of Godliness and there is no godliness .
You see Godliness is not meerly tied to your belief in God.
Godliness is tied to the mysterious one, it is tied to the uniqueness of Jesus Christ.
He Is the centerpiece of understanding what it means to be Godly, and the enablement to use the washing machine, and no longer rely on the scrubbing board.
It is what God will do( the washing machine) vs. I try to do the scrubbing board.
11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,
12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;
13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
21 I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
14 Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.
21 For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.
The Law was never ment to make us a better person, so when we appeal to it to make us better we are misusing the law.
The Law is like a mirror, and what do we do with a mirror.
When we wake up in the morning we go to the mirror in the morning to see how bad everything got messed up last night as we slept.
All the mirror can do is reveal the problem, because it was never designed to fix the problem.
When we look in the mirror and we see something out of place do we then take the mirror of the wall and begin to use it to fix our hair, to brush our teeth, and put makeup on.
So the law will never fix ungodly things in our life. Those things must be fixed by the grace of God which is the person of Jesus Christ.
Most believers who are failing in their christian walk. are not failing in the fact that they don’t know there needs to be change...
right they know that there needs to be change..
but they are failing in the powerlessness to pull off the change.
And so you know what that means, it means that Christ in us has not been expanded.
when
So what I wanted you to see today is that grace recieved in the person of Jesus Christ is the mystery of Godliness.
We not only receive for salvation but we receive Him as a means of transformation.
The Holy spirit expanding christ in you so that you are naturally becoming more Godly.
You are not scrubbing it any more you, your just bringing it to the washing machine.
