Bro. Rick and Ermert funeral home...
Somewhere in the late 1970’s I stood looking across a beautiful meadow at the consummate deer hunter, my Uncle Loyal in the tree line of the the adjoining hill. Aunt Wilma was hunting with him. Deer were in the area and suddenly shots rang out. I don’t remember if we ever figured out where they came from. But, I remember the instincts honed in war zones overseas, kicked in and Loyal hit the ground faster than I knew was possible.
The shadow of death came close that day some 40+ years ago. Loyal escaped unscathed to hunt another day.
My thoughts gravitate to another place not unlike this one.
Let me remind you that Jesus one time stood at a grave side just as we are today,
Lazarus, his friend, had died and was buried.
His emotions were running high and just two words etched this moment into history: “Jesus wept” (Jn 11:35-36).
If we look a little closer we also see that:

38 Then Jesus, again groaning in Himself, came to the tomb

As startling as it may seem, the celestial comforter needed comforting!
This seems to add validity to what Isaiah wrote in 53:4, listen to them carefully.
Isaiah 53:4 (NKJV)
4 Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted.
He understands our tears.
Because of this and many other reasons, I believe He is going to deal with them.
John saw a new heaven and a new earth and a new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. He heard a loud voice from heaven say these incredible words in found in Revelation 21:4.
Revelation 21:4 (NKJV)
4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
I believe _______ is waiting for us in that deathless, tearless place and God is prepared to dry all tears from our eyes.

But it is interesting to take careful note that the Bible tells us that Jesus “lifted up his eyes” (Jn 11:41).

Jesus was not looking at the tomb. He had his eyes on home.
That’s exactly what I am encouraging you to do as we come to the conclusion of this service.
Don’t look at the road.
It has hospitals, ambulances, mortuaries, and a thousand other discouraging things along the way.
Just keep your eyes on home and it will be worth it all when we get there.
An now, Lord, we commit Loyal into your secure, loving hands.
You gave him to us __________years ago, and now we give him back to you in the name of the Lord. Amen.
Pray for family
Be blessed and remember:
This world is not our home.
But we are on our way there.
