2/21/24 Dwelling In the Secret Place
Psalm 91:1 (NKJV) 1He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Dwell is a very popular word in the Bible and it has many exciting meaning.
Hebrew: yashab (HSN-<H3427>), to sit down; to dwell; to remain; to settle in the sense of taking up a homestead or staking out a claim and resisting all claim-jumpers; to possess a place and live therein
It means to dwell, to rest, to abide, to sit down, remain seated and I love in this psalm of protection that the first part that God talks about is dwelling or taking up a claim in His presence.
This promise is for those who Dwell there, not just visit.
Jesus said it like this in John 15
John 15:1–9 (NKJV) 1“I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
2Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
3You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
4Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
5“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
6If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned.
7If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you.
8By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
9“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.
So we see that there are some amazing benefits of abiding or dwelling in this secret place.
What I have found out is that this secret place is being IN HIM.
Let’s read verse 1 again:
Psalm 91:1 (NKJV) 1He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
Let’s look at a few scripture’s with some of these thoughts on dwelling.
Psalm 27:1–8 (NKJV) 1The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid?
2When the wicked came against me To eat up my flesh, My enemies and foes, They stumbled and fell.
3Though an army may encamp against me, My heart shall not fear; Though war may rise against me, In this I will be confident.
4One thing I have desired of the Lord, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.
5For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock.
6And now my head shall be lifted up above my enemies all around me; Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord.
7Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice! Have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
8When You said, “Seek My face,” My heart said to You, “Your face, Lord, I will seek.”
When Jesus made this amazing prayer for Believers in John 17 watch what He say’s.
John 17:20–26 (NKJV) 20“I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word;
21that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me.
22And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one:
23 I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
24“Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; for You loved Me before the foundation of the world.
25O righteous Father! The world has not known You, but I have known You; and these have known that You sent Me.
26And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”
Now watch this Holy Spirit inspired prayer that Paul prayed.
Ephesians 3:14–21 (NKJV)14
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
15 from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
16 that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,
17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love,
18may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height—
19to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
20Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us,
21to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
So as we take time to acknowledge that we abide In Him, that we are one with Him, we see the great protection of Psalm 91 become a true reality in our lives.
Psalm 91:1 (NKJV) 1He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
