Mark 1:35-45
Mark 1:35-45
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, he got up, went out, and made his way to a deserted place; and there he was praying.
Simon and his companions searched for him, and when they found him they said, “Everyone is looking for you.”
Jesus wasn’t flattered by the big crowed.
And he said to them, “Let’s go on to the neighboring villages so that I may preach there too. This is why I have come.”
He was about the Fathers work.
Take the gospel to those that have not heard.
He came to preach, teach, and die.
He went into all of Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons. Then a man with leprosy came to him and, on his knees, begged him, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.”
What faith the man with leprosy show in his statement.
What is leprosy? (hair, nail, figure, toes, face rot and shame)
They must yell unclean! Unclean! when passing others. Must stay six feet away.
In this time there was no cure.
This man was in search of a cure in Jesus.
Moved with compassion, Jesus reached out his hand and touched him. “I am willing,” he told him. “Be made clean.”
He touched him!!!!
Jesus wasn’t allowed to touch the man because he was unclean.
Did Jesus do something wrong?
Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. Then he sternly warned him and sent him away at once, telling him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer what Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
“he was made clean”
Other wouldn’t even look at this man but Christ reached out His hand and touched him. Healing him!
Jesus wasn’t effected by his uncleaness, but Jesus made the unclean clean. WOW!
Is that not what He does for us.
“Sternly warned”
Don’t tell anybody
“go and show yourself to the priest”
the priest will order that two live clean birds, cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop be brought for the one who is to be cleansed. Then the priest will order that one of the birds be slaughtered over fresh water in a clay pot. He is to take the live bird together with the cedar wood, scarlet yarn, and hyssop, and dip them all into the blood of the bird that was slaughtered over the fresh water. He will then sprinkle the blood seven times on the one who is to be cleansed from the skin disease. He is to pronounce him clean and release the live bird over the open countryside.
This ceremony to our knowledge was never used but the priest.
Get that book of the shelf I never done this before.
Jesus made clean what the priest could not make clean.
Then he sternly warned him and sent him away at once, telling him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go and show yourself to the priest, and offer what Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.”
Yet he went out and began to proclaim it widely and to spread the news, with the result that Jesus could no longer enter a town openly. But he was out in deserted places, and they came to him from everywhere.
This man was disobedient he did the very thing Jesus said not to do.
He did not do what Jesus told him to do.
This hindered the work of Christ. “Jesus could no longer enter a town openly”.
The priest didn’t hear the testimony.
It is important to obey Jesus!
Closing thoughts
Pastor, I don’t have leprosy what did this have to do with me?
You do have a condition that can be cured by a priest or a pastor. (SIN)
Look a the comparison of the ceremony in Leviticus and the Cross.
Jesus can reach out to the unclean and make them clean.
