God’s Mercy
God’s Mercy
12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.
13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.
A Form of the word Mercy is mentioned 372 times in the bible.
Mercy is,
Compassion for the miserable. By the atoning sacrifice of Christ a way is open for the exercise of mercy towards the sons of men, in harmony with the demands of truth and righteousness.
In Christ mercy and truth meet together. Mercy is also a Christian grace.
Also: Compassion; Courtesy; Kindness; Merciful; Mercy and Compassion; Pity; Unselfishness.
9 For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.
A quote and story from Charles Surgeon:
If you meet a sinner, do not turn your back on him, as a Pharisee might, but help him all you can, for Christ helped you all he could. If it should cost you a great deal of trouble to win that soul for Christ, gladly put yourself to that trouble, because Christ took so much trouble to save you.
A good brother said to me, the other day, concerning a certain boy, that he was afraid we should never do much with him because he was of very corrupt origin. I said, “So were you.”
He replied, “I do not quite mean it that way.”
“No,” I said, “but I do mean it that way.”
He or she who is a son or daughter of Adam had a corrupt origin. As we all came from that source, we are all corrupt. Do not ever say of anybody, “That person is too bad for me to do anything with him.” It is the genius of Christianity to select the worst first, and we should never regard any man as utterly hopeless until he is dead. As long as the breath is in his body, even if all the devils from hell were also in him, there is enough power in the Lord Jesus Christ to make the whole troop of them fly, and it is for us to attack those devils in his name. Jesus Christ having saved us, the salvation of other sinners must be possible.
16 Hear me, O Lord; for thy lovingkindness is good: Turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies.
I. God’s Mercy Reaches Upward
I. God’s Mercy Reaches Upward
11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, So great is his mercy toward them that fear him.
A. God’s mercy reaches upward, beyond man’s exploration of outer space. The rich and proud are included.
B. Presidents, kings, and generals—all those who humble themselves and accept Christ as Savior and Lord—Will be saved. Even the person that seems to have it all together experiences the Mercy of God!
They may have riches beyond imagination, but they still need Gods Mercy!
They may seem to have done everything right in their life, but they still need the Mercy of God!
Mercy reaches to the highest and with out it man would be destroyed because we all miss the mark and have sin in our lives!
His Mercy is forever! His Mercy is never ending and reaches upward to the highest!
26 O give thanks unto the God of heaven: For his mercy endureth for ever.
II. God’s Mercy Reaches Downward
II. God’s Mercy Reaches Downward
23 Who remembered us in our low estate: For his mercy endureth for ever:
A. God’s mercy is great and good. It reaches downward to the discouraged, distressed, and depressed.
How many of you have ever been in a low estate? Where is God’s Mercy when you are low?
Have you ever thought about where you would have been without the Mercy of God?
With out God’s Mercy Discouragement would be greater!
Distress would be greater!
Depression would be greater!
B. God’s mercy accepts all who forsake their sins with simple, trusting faith.
Faith brings Mercy!
We read in Micah 6:8“8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; And what doth the Lord require of thee, But to do justly, and to love mercy, And to walk humbly with thy God?”
To do Justly, live a right life style, do right!
To love Mercy! Be merciful even has your God has shown mercy towards you!
Walk Humbly, Don’y get haughty and high minded with a holier than thou attitude! I don’t care how right you have been and how long you have been saved and walking with God! God never called us to be the judge over someones life! Whoever it is! If they come through the door of our church, no matter what state they are in, we must show Mercy and build them up with grace and love!
I saw a post on Face Book that I liked that said “If a backslider shows up at church and all you can do is remember what they have done, your the one who needs to go to the alter!
C. God’s mercy reaches up to the proud and haughty and down to the lowest, setting them on the same level, when they become one in Christ.
Mercy is no respecter of persons! God’s Mercy is extended to everyone! High or low!

76 Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, According to thy word unto thy servant.
77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: For thy law is my delight.
A. God’s tender mercy reaches inward to the heart, mind, and soul, bringing comfort and contentment.
The Mercy of God gives us confidence to keep moving! No that when we do fall He will extend Mercy in our lives!
It is a comfort knowing that God will show us mercy when no one else will.
People are unmerciful!
Family maybe unmerciful!
The world is unmerciful!
But God will always be merciful to us!
B. God’s mercy feels with compassion and love. It cheers the bereaved and lonely and heals the brokenhearted.
You can’t have love, compassion, grace or forgiveness without mercy!
A merciful person is a compassionate person!
My prayer for us is more compassion on those that have made mistakes, slipped and fell and have found themselves in the misery of sin to find grace and mercy being extended from God through us!
Jesus said that he came to lift up the broken hearted and to set the captive free! To preach the acceptable year of the Lord! We must imitate His example!
C. God’s tender mercies reach inward, exchanging our sorrow for his joy. His stability replaces our frustration and changes our disappointments to his appointments.
IV. God’s Mercy Reaches Outward
IV. God’s Mercy Reaches Outward
64 The earth, O Lord, is full of thy mercy: Teach me thy statutes.
A. God’s mercy extends outward to the whole world. It reaches the great and small, black and white, rich and poor, old and young alike.
Imagine if God was unmerciful? Where do you think the world would be right now?
God by the swipe of His hand can destroy nations!
God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah because there were none righteous. How many righteous people do you think live in the world today?
Surely we can see that the earth is full of His Mercy!
Praise God for his mercy upon the earth!
Praise God for His Mercy upon the nation!
Praise God for His Mercy upon your family!
Praise God for His Mercy upon your life!
4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,
2 O give thanks unto the God of gods: For his mercy endureth for ever.
3 O give thanks to the Lord of lords: For his mercy endureth for ever.
His Mercy Endures! It never gets tired! It never gives up or gives in! He will always be Merciful for ever and ever!
Praise Him! because Grace is getting what we do not deserve,
Praise Him! because Grace is getting what we do not deserve,
Justice is getting what we do deserve,
Mercy is not getting what we do deserve!
CON: In a world filled with violence, wickedness, and hatred we all need the mercies of God!
We especially need to show the Mercy of God toward those around us in the house of faith!
Instead of kicking people when there down or gossiping about what they may or may not have done its time that we as Christians show the same Mercy that God has shown us!
When someone makes a mistake show Mercy!
When someone has slipped and fell, Show Mercy!
You don’t know what the person next to you or the next person that comes through those door are facing in life, as God has shown you Mercy! Show them Mercy!
Who are we that we that we think that we are the judge and the jury to pass down the sentence of an individual! To slander them! To Turn a cold shoulder! To decide that they deserve the grace and mercy of God?
Jesus said in Matt 5:7
7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
How many of you need mercy this morning? How many of you know someone that needs mercy this morning? Know is the time to pray! Know is the time to seek God’s face to strengthen Mercy in the body of Christ! How many of you are with me this morning?
Prayer is the forerunner of mercy.
Charles Spurgeon
