Moses and one for Eli'jah." For he did not know what to say, for they were exceedingly afraid. And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, "This is my beloved Son; listen to him."
We hear about beloved son in the story of Abraham and Isaac.
With your voice coming from the cloud is terrifying like with Moses we know that Elijah her to still small voice on the mountain and there is fear.
Ex. 3:6 Burning Bush “And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.”
1 Kings 19:12 and after the earthquake a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire; and after the fire a sound of sheer silence. 13 When Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. Then there came a voice to him that said, ‘What are you doing here, Elijah?’
How can Peter really know what he saying, when he meets with not just one of his heroes but two and they are already in heaven,

Story
You just don’t think right when you’re scared. This happened to me the other day with some bees…
And Peter is afraid and he says something kind of dumb. But bless him because he’s not afraid to act! Needs purification.
Getting too Close to God:
Getting too Close to God:
And maybe that’s like us, maybe we’re afraid to get to close to God, afraid of the cost, afraid of getting zapped, afraid of making a fool of ourselves. Even as a priest, this journey often involves the latter, we don’t have it figured out. We are bad lovers, of one another and of our God, but God works with us
When was Moses afraid?
When was Moses afraid?
When he heard revelry, when he saw the burning bush, when he was to return to Pharoah, when he was accused of murder, when God passed by
Exodus34:34 Whenever Moses zwent in before the LORD to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, 35 the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face was ashining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him.
When was Elijah afraid?
When was Elijah afraid?
After he killed the proprets of Baal, when he encountered God on the Mountain
2 Kings 1:10 - Elijah is the prophet of fire, carried in a chariot of fire, transformed into fire, like the angles.
When was Abraham afraid?
When was Abraham afraid?
When he saw pharaoh and handed Sarah over to him, when he was getting older and still without a son. When he was asked to sacrifice his son. But he didn't hold back his only begotten son.
When was Peter afraid?
When was Peter afraid?
On the sea, when Christ called them, on the mountain, Christ said “get behind me Satan!” when he was accused of being a friend of the Nazarene. When he saw Jesus on the shore after the resurrection, "Do you love me?"
2 Peter 1: 16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but dwe were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain
Christ is the king of glory, we see that in the transfiguration Augustine said that he was never more the king of glory than when he laid him self down on Calvary. On the same mountain as mount Moriah.
Rev 21:23 And the city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God is its light, and its lamp is the Lamb.
Rev 21:9 Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls full of the seven last plagues came and said to me, ‘Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.’ 10 And in the spirit[f] he carried me away to a great, high mountain and showed me the holy city Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God. 11 It has the glory of God
but just as Christ is God at divinizing his own clothes, super white! So he’s good at divinizing his friends! WE are part of the bride.
Psalm 19:4b In the heavens he has set a tent for the sun,
5 which comes out like a bridegroom from his wedding canopy,
and like a strong man runs its course with joy.
6 Its rising is from the end of the heavens,
and its circuit to the end of them;
and nothing is hidden from its heat.
This gets us back to the law of sacrifice. Much sacrifice must be done to win each soul. Christ did that and he beckons us closer to participate with him in his redemptive act. He shows us that He is the King of glory, but never is he more the king of glory than when he mounts his throne of the cross, on the same mountain that Isaac and Abraham ascended. God shows us his son at the Transfiguration, and He shows us His heart at the cross.
What then shall we say to this? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but handed him over for us all, how will he not also give us everything else along with him? Who will bring a charge against God’s chosen ones? It is God who acquits us. Who will condemn? It is Christ [Jesus] who died, rather, was raised, who also is at the right hand of God, who indeed intercedes for us.
