Telling the pressures of this world to Fee_Mow or shut up in Jesus Name
Story of Teepeeing Brett as a kid and freaking out when I couldn’t get the right key to get in my car
Have you ever Felt like that? Like something is happening and it seems like there is no hope to what is to come?
Today we are going to look at a passage that shows the Disciples in much the same panic
PRAY
Mark 4:35–41 NIV
That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, “Let us go over to the other side.” Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, “Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?” He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Quiet! Be still!” Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. He said to his disciples, “Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?” They were terrified and asked each other, “Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!”
I can imagine Jesus is so tired a day full of teaching and He finally got to get some rest and then He is woken up ________
And the interesting thing about this passage is Jesus uses the same word as we learned last week for “be still”
(Fee-mow) and the greek word word peace here is (See-õ-pow) which means quiet .
I feel like this passage conveys the very frustrating moment that Christ was having.
The crazy thing is that Jesus was not scared, AT ALL
But the Disciples were so scared.
have you been there?
Things not going well in life
Waiting for a doctor’s call
Wondering if your loved one is ok, after not hearing from them. (Story when Karen was taken to the ER with Kidney)
Insert what keeps you up at night
The reality is what you worry about the most is were you trust God the least.
At the moment in this passage what worried the disciples the most was the storm and we can see that this is where they trusted the least.
Isn’t funny that we can feel like we have so much faith and then out of nowhere our faith seems to disappear?
Years ago woke up and was brushing my teeth and when I coughed I blood came out. Now back story is that I had been going to and volunteering at a Church and I felt like my faith was strong.
but I smoked for years before I was finally able to quit and I fully thought it was lung cancer, and I kept worrying, _________
Well today we are going to see how we can “sleep through the storm

Surrender Your Worries to God

We need to understand that we are not in control God is
He gives us the answer of what to do
Philippians 4:6–7 NIV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
We can do this over and over if need be.
We can also look at
Proverbs 3:5–6 NIV
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
When we come to understand that we don’t see the whole picture, and the way we can get through this life without all the worry is to “trust in the Lord.

Stay in the Present Moment

It is so easy to worry about tomorrow,
All the question and uncertainty that go along with it
Am I going to get that Job
what will the test results say
will the Anaheim Ducks Hockey turn it around
It is hard not to worry but if we work on what is in front of us, a lot of the worries will fall away
Matthew 6:34 NIV
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Meditate on God’s Word

Instead of meditating on our worries and dwelling on them lets meditate on the Word of God
So instead of
I feel so alone

The Lord Is With Me

Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV
The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
I am so worried about what to do with my future

The Lord Knows My Path

Jeremiah 29:11 NIV
For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
I am trying to follow God but i scared
Psalm 18:30 NIV
As for God, his way is perfect: The Lord’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.
When we switch the narrative of our situation we can see that God is with us and we must trust God in these moments.
The Disciples literally ad Jesus with them, IF anyone should have trust it should have been them, but they let their worries overtake their faith.
