Everyone has their views on Hell.
Some believe that hell is a state of mind
Some believe we are in hell now on earth.
Some believe in annihilation
Some believe no one go to hell but the fallen angles.
Peoples view on hell are as personal as their views on Heaven.
So what does Jesus say about Hell?
Jesus talks about hell 56 times in the New Testament.
Do you now how many times HE talked about Heaven? 24 times.
Jesus talked about hell twice as much as heaven.
Lets look at the one misconception about Hell.
The ones hell have recieved their finally Judgement.
Revelation 20:11–15 CSB
Then I saw a great white throne and one seated on it. Earth and heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them. I also saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life, and the dead were judged according to their works by what was written in the books. Then the sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them; each one was judged according to their works. Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
Revelation 20:13–15 CSB
Then the sea gave up the dead that were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them; each one was judged according to their works. Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.
Hades is hell
Luke 16:19–31 CSB
“There was a rich man who would dress in purple and fine linen, feasting lavishly every day. But a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores, was lying at his gate. He longed to be filled with what fell from the rich man’s table, but instead the dogs would come and lick his sores. One day the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. And being in torment in Hades, he looked up and saw Abraham a long way off, with Lazarus at his side. ‘Father Abraham!’ he called out, ‘Have mercy on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this flame!’ “ ‘Son,’ Abraham said, ‘remember that during your life you received your good things, just as Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here, while you are in agony. Besides all this, a great chasm has been fixed between us and you, so that those who want to pass over from here to you cannot; neither can those from there cross over to us.’ “ ‘Father,’ he said, ‘then I beg you to send him to my father’s house—because I have five brothers—to warn them, so that they won’t also come to this place of torment.’ “But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they should listen to them.’ “ ‘No, father Abraham,’ he said. ‘But if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’ “But he told him, ‘If they don’t listen to Moses and the prophets, they will not be persuaded if someone rises from the dead.’ ”
So lets go back to our verses.
They were thrown into the lake of fire
So let us look at Gehenna (lake of fire)
This was used a the Illustration for the lake of fire.
The city would throw all their trash into this pit that looked like a river and burn it.
So much stuff was being burned that the fire never stop.
This gave a image of the lake of fire to the people.
Why is this so important to understand?
2 Thessalonians 1:4–10 CSB
Therefore, we ourselves boast about you among God’s churches—about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and afflictions that you are enduring. It is clear evidence of God’s righteous judgment that you will be counted worthy of God’s kingdom, for which you also are suffering, since it is just for God to repay with affliction those who afflict you and to give relief to you who are afflicted, along with us. This will take place at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with his powerful angels, when he takes vengeance with flaming fire on those who don’t know God and on those who don’t obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. They will pay the penalty of eternal destruction from the Lord’s presence and from his glorious strength on that day when he comes to be glorified by his saints and to be marveled at by all those who have believed, because our testimony among you was believed.
Eternal destruction :
Destruction (ol-eth-ros) = to be destroyed or ruined by losing everything.
heath
wealth
love one
status
without Jesus Christ
Would you want to go to Heaven if Jesus wasn’t there?
This is my prayer today that everyone who hear this message gets the head knowledge about hell but never truly know hell.
