Faith Alone: A Gift Beyond Measure

Good evening, beloved brothers and sisters in Christ. Our journey tonight takes us through the sacred pages of Ephesians 2:8-9, Romans 3:19-31, and John 3:16-18. May the Holy Spirit illuminate our hearts as we explore the profound and wondrous gift of faith.

I. The Depravity of Man (Romans 3:19-20):

Before we can fully appreciate the gift of faith, we must confront the reality of our sin. As Romans 3:23 declares, "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." The law exposes our sinfulness, revealing our inability to achieve righteousness on our own. We stand guilty before a holy God, deserving His judgment.

II. The Righteousness of God (Romans 3:21-26):

In the depths of our despair, God unveils His divine plan for our redemption. The righteousness of God, apart from the law, has been revealed. Through faith in Jesus Christ, God's righteousness is imputed to us. As we grasp the significance of the cross, we find the propitiation for our sins in Christ's blood. It is by God's grace alone that we are justified, and it is through faith alone that we lay hold of this priceless gift.

III. Faith as God's Gift (Ephesians 2:8-9):

Ephesians 2:8-9 reassures us of the origin of our faith, emphasizing that it is a gift from God. "For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast." Our faith, the very instrument of our salvation, is not a product of human effort but a divine endowment. In the economy of grace, God graciously bestows faith on undeserving hearts.

IV. God's Love Revealed (John 3:16-18):

John 3:16 echoes the heartbeat of the gospel: "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." God's love is not confined to a select few but extends to all humanity. Through faith in Jesus, we escape condemnation and step into the embrace of eternal life. The Light has come into the world, but it is through faith that we choose to walk in that Light and experience the gift of salvation.
