God so Loved / I Could Sing of Your Love
February is a unique month. Weird month with 28 days (all else has 30 0r 31).
But it gets even more unique every four years with leap year (29 days).
Rooted Riff - talk about the unique love of God.
To do that I need a volunteer.
My bill (take it when it is over)
I want money, money, money…I can be really annoying in my house.
Crumple it / throw it on the floor / stomp / plate / ketchup
Do you think I still want it?
Throw it in the garbage?
Still has value - just got to clean it up. It is just as valuable as ever.
Sometimes life has a way of making us feel less valuable than we are.
Comparing ourselves to other people. (Athletic / artistic / smart / popular / looks / neat and tidy like sibling.
My family is a little messed up.
I make mistakes all the time. Sometimes they aren’t mistakes, sometimes I actively choose to do wrong things.
I am guilty / I feel shame.
Not be worth much. Or maybe I used to be worth something, but not as much anymore.
But your value is not tied to that stuff. The value was assigned to this bill by the print press that made it. The value was given to it by it’s creator.
So where do we get our value from?
Our value and worth comes from the One Who created us. It comes from outside of us and is not dependent upon what we can aor can’t do.
God’s love is unconditional. That means it is a love that is not dependent upon anything we do, only on the God Who gives it. And HE is the same yesterday, today and forever.
Well, yeah of course God loves us…when we do the right things, say the right things, feel the right things and act the right way.
No, I all those things just mentioned are conditions. But God’s love come to us unconditionally.
Jesus Loves Me
Romans 5:8 ESV
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
You still have value even if your life is messy and messed up.
I was just sharing in a sermon this past week.
Jesus calling His disciples…(he called those whom He desired)…LIST OF APOSTLES, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.
That tells me, Jesus desired / loved even the one who would hand Him over to be killed.
Unconditional Love.
You would think that would be an understandable condition right?
I will love you, if you don’t end up betraying me! Nope, He even desired the guy who betrayed him. Isn’t that incredible.
Judas was loved by God not because He was good or bad. God just loved him.
Same thing we see in OT.
Isaiah 43:1 ESV
1 But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.
Isaiah 43:3–4 (ESV)
3 For I am the Lord your God…your Savior…you are precious in my eyes, and honored, and I love you….
God doesn’t love us any less when we are messed up.
When we mess up, He doesn’t disown us…He wants to clean us up.
1 John 1:9 ESV
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
He loves us unconditionally. Without Condition.
