Matthew 6:1–18 ““Beware of practicing your piety before men in order to be seen by them; for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give alms, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by men. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 1 John 2:16 “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the pride of life, is not of the Father but is of the world.”

Lust of the Flesh -- the desire which comes from our bodies, such as for food, sexual gratification, sleep, etc.Lust of the Eyes -- the desire to possess what we see, such as money, objects, the flesh of another, etc.Pride of Life -- the desire for power, esteem, false glory, etc.

Genesis 3:6 “So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate; and she also gave some to her husband, and he ate.”
