Let’s get one thing straight.

Mark 10: 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. 22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions.

To begin with it is with a per-spacious duty and a pious persistence that we present this famous passage of scripture. Today we want glint gleam and gaze at the text and get it right.

The text is heart breaking because this young man was the only one in the bible who ever came to the feet of Jesus, and went away worse than he came.He was an important man. Her had great potential. He was respected by others, and he must of held some ruling office, in the local court. Mathew Mark and Luke’s Gospel talks good about him.

Seemingly the ideal upper eschalon, upwardly mobile individual you want joining your church.

Because the text indicates and informs us that he was raised right. It was obvious that he had manners and morals, with a delectable desire in his heart for spiritual things. Let’s look at the text and see how he ran up to Jesus and bowed at His feet.

17 And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?

First of all the young man came running. Young people are not running to the church anymore. They watch church from their phones. They are on social media all the time. So when they do come, make them feel welcome with God’s Message from the Master.*

Then the text says that in verse 17 that the young man came kneeling. In today’s culture this would be De Lu Lu The young people say Delusional like a fairy tale. So this young man was obviously theologically trained. and so That’s why it’s vitally important to me! to keep all of our youth biblically and theologically trained and that way they can development a real relationship with Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. If we can teach them while they are young I believe we can save the next generation *.

Then the text say in verse 17 the rich young ruler said Good Master. Meaning he had respect for the Position of Jesus the Christ. Even if the rich young ruler hadn’t fully grasped the concept of Jesus as the Messiah, even if he hadn’t grasp the concept of Jesus as the Monoghanes 100% God and 100% man at the same time even if he hadn’t grasped the concept of Jesus being the Propitiation the substitute Lamb that was slain before the foundations of the world to save us.*

He said Good Master what shall I do to inherit eternal life? Seemingly In every way, he was an ideal young man. He says Good Master. and this is an ultimate compliment but No Jewish Rabbi 3x would allow you to call him Good with Master together. Good Master 2x Good in the Greek vernacular is the word Agathos and Agathos means kind and beneficially good.. Then Master in the Greek vernacular is the word Didaskalos. Didaskalos means that you are being taught by the Master Teacher. That’s like being taught the president of the University, and by The smartest Teacher in the institution. Yes Indeed. Heaven sent Jesus the very best teacher. *

Then the second factor to the statement Good Master is that the young man had not reached a level of maturity to be able to grasp that Jesus was God the Son dwelling in the flesh with Mankind.*

And so Jesus answers him in verse 19 by saying Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Defraud not, Honour thy father and mother.

Let’s get one thing straight. God’s law have to be adhered to. No Christian Church, should ever operate without the bible, as the supreme standard by which all human conducts creeds and Opinions shall be tried. In other words God’s Holy Word ought to govern our church doctrines, policies and polity.*

Tell your neighbor: That’s right yeah

Jesus said don’t commit adultery that means I’m staying with my own wife. Then Jesus said something the old folk taught us “If you’l lie, you’ll steal, if you’ll steal, you’ll kill.* Because verse 19 says “Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness.

Let’s get one thing straight we got to follow what’s in the book. Because the bible says Defraud not. That means Quit cheating people. Some people are as crooked as the Mississippi river winding down from Minnesota to Louisiana.

The lastly Jesus says in verse 19 Honor thy Father and Thy Mother. I don’t let my children sassy and disrespect me. And if you don’t want them to sass and disrespect you, then don’t ever let them start sassying and disrespecting you.*

And then in verse 20 the young man answered and said unto him, “Master, Didaskalos meaning Master Teacher President of the College university Teacher “all these have I observed from my youth. Boy that a cocky arrogant self serving puff up superficial spoiled brat. Because Jesus is pointing out to the young man to the Law of Moses: And in doing so Jesus wanted the rich young ruler to see himself as a sinner that’s bowed before the holy Son of God.

Brothers and sisters Let get one thing straight Jesus is saying We cannot be saved from sin by keeping the Law. If that was the case Jesus would not have had to come and be the ultimate one time sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. Because we are saved by Grace and not by works of righteousness. And what the Law couldn’t do Jesus did in one wapp.*

And the bible says that after Jesus heard the rich young ruler’s erroneous answers Then in verse 21 Then Jesus beholding him loved him, and said unto him, One thing thou lackest: go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, take up the cross, and follow me. Let’s briefly unpack this text

1. Let’s just get one thing straight “When Jesus beheld him, He loved him. And so “in 2024 if Jesus didn’t love us, He’d just let us cut up and carry on and act like a fool with no consequences until the judgement and we bus hell wide open kicking and screaming. But God so Loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believe on Him Should not perish but have Everlasting Life. Some folk skip over the part in John 3:16 that’s not written but inferred. First of all Jesus had to sign off on giving up being rich in heaven, come down through 42 generation and be born poor in Bethlehem. Jesus had to sign off on becoming the suffering servant before going to Calvary and die on a cross for the sins of mankind and become the All Sufficient Savior. And Jesus had to sign off on being the deity that have our names written down in the Lamb’s Book of life. *

2. Let’s get this One thing Straight Jesus said One thing thou lackest: The rich young ruler had one major problem. He thought that he could do good works and keep his money and still get to heaven. But Jesus tells him to go thy way,

3. Go your way.. In other words stop hero worshipping me and get to moving on what you ought to be doing, stop all that kissing up to me because I can see right through you, and trying to flatter me with words from your mouth and your heart is far from the truth. The Truth

4. Jesus said The Truth is son, you ought to sell whatsoever thou hast. I imagine that the young man said Wait what Sell everything. Jesus I ain’t never been poor a day in my life. We know this because, at that time in biblical antiquity there was only a two status society. The rich and the poor. You were either rich or you were poor. Jesus is asking the core of the rich young ruler to be stripped away.

5. Go give all your money to the poor. Not just a few suits to the thrift store at the end of the year for tax purposes. But give it all away. Yes Indeed!!! Give it All away. Church a rich person only cares about their MONEY. The Bible says the LOVE of Money is the root of all evil.*

6. The greater good here is or the summon bonum here is what Jesus says next and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: I thought about it all. and I said Lord I’ve worked so hard to obtain the little that you gave me. because what I have you gave me, what I know you taught me, where I am you brought me and where I’m going it’s going to take you Lord to get me there. The bible says the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness therein Everything Every place and Everyone belongs to God. It’s all His anyhow!!

So Lord if you want it you got it. Because the Summon bonum moment is that we’ll have treasure up in heaven. And Every time you give from your heart.... You send up timber on your brand new home over in Gloryland.

Then 7. Jesus says “come, take up the cross, and follow me. OO OOO O OO. The rich young ruler probably said within his heart “Jesus First of all you want me to get out your face with my flattering words, then you want me to take all my money, and then give it to poor people. Then Jesus you’re talking about a de lu lu future. Talking bout riches in heaven that I can’t see yet. Then to add insult to injury you want me to take up a Roman cross 2x yes indeed because everybody knows that the Romans were the cruelest nation to enforce capitol punishment by death through crucifixion. Then follow you Jesus The rich ruler is probably saying I’ve already followed you behind the scenes Jesus , you don’t even had a place to lay your head at night.

The rich young ruler said Jesus Let’s get one thing straight “I just Can’t Live like you’re saying. I just can’t do it. I just can’t commit to your ideology, philology, psychology, sociology and more importantly your Theology.

And So sadly the rich young ruler walks away from Salvation. And this is the only person in the bible who was eager to come to Jesus who left un eager to stay with Jesus.*

And let me get one thing straight, “Jesus is the best thing that ever happened to me and my family. The bible says 22 And he was sad at that saying, and went away grieved: for he had great possessions. 23 And Jesus looked round about, and saith unto his disciples, How hardly shall they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!

And the essence of this biblical narrative is that we ought to be theologically sound enough to put God first and support every ministry in this church without people having to beg you to do right, Everybody in here have Free Will. First of all Individually Every tub sits on its own bottom. Secondly, Collectively we have to be honest about our commitments to God’s church and then cut the garment according to the pattern.*
