Why Does God Test Us?
Is it so that He can determine if we are faithful?
No - God knows the outcome before the test.
Is it to try and cause us to stumble?
No, God does not tempt with evil.
James 1:13
“Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.”
God Tests Us To Expand His Lordship in Our Lives
There are areas in our lives where wee resist the Lordship of Jesus.
These areas can include:
Family
Other relationships
Occupation
Money
God desires for us to have our entire lives surrendered to His Lordship.
Testing reveals whether or not we have surrendered to the Lordship of Christ.
God Tests Us to Prepare Us for the Next Chapter in Our Lives
The short genealogy at the end of the chapter shows God preparing for the future of Abraham’s decedents.
Questions for Reflection:
Have you ever surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus?
What areas in your life are you resistant to the Lordship of God?
Are you ready to surrender those areas?
If you are in a time of testing, are you obeying God?
