Listening Like Nicodemus

Listening to God

John 3:1–21.

- Make kids put their fingers over their lips and make a shhh sound.

- hands behind their ears and whisper, “Listen.”

- In today’s lesson, we’re gonna learn about a man who went to see Jesus at nighttime

when other people were asleep. (Say shhh and cup your hands behind your ears.)

- He wanted to hear what Jesus had to say.

- Nicodemus knows Jesus is the best teacher in the whole world.

- He wants to go see Jesus, but it’s nighttime. Turn on the flashlight and dim

the room lights. It’s dark, but Nicodemus is going anyhow. He is going to meet Jesus right now.

- Nicodemus knocks on the door and Jesus tells him to come in.

- I am glad to see you. I know why you came. You want to know what you need to do, so I will tell you.

- Everyone put on your listening ears

- Listen closely to what I say.

- blow hard to make the sound of wind.

- Do you hear the wind? Nicodemus nods.

- Wave a piece of card stock to create wind.

- Do you feel the wind? Nicodemus nods. We feel it

- Do you see the wind? Nicodemus shakes head.

- we may see it the trees and grass, but we cannot see the wind.

- The wind is like the Holy Ghost.

- Cup hand behind ear.

-When you receive the Holy Ghost, you will hear it. You will say words you have never said before.

- Wave the cardstock. You will feel the Holy Ghost inside you. You will feel happy.

- So Nicodemus, what do you need to do? . . . You need to receive the Holy Ghost.

- When you have questions, do what Nicodemus did.

He went to the best Teacher, Jesus. He listened to Jesus.

- God gave us the Bible to answer our questions. If you have a question, you can ask your parents or teachers

- They will answer your questions and tell you what the Bible says.

-One day you will learn to read, and then you can read the Bible for yourselves.

- Lets see if you were listening, ask questions

-Whom did Nicodemus go to see? Jesus

- Did Nicodemus go in the daytime or nighttime? Nighttime

- Who is the best teacher in the whole world? Jesus

- When your teacher tells a Bible story, what should you do? Listen
