Leviticus 8:1-13
Intro: Here in the 8th chapter of Leviticus, Aaron and his sons are both publicly set apart for service and publicly proclaimed as the priesthood of Israel. The consecration began first with the washing of Aaron and his sons by Moses. The water signifying the application of God’s told truth’s concerning the Tabernacle, priesthood, and offerings. The washing of the priest together set forth in unity the sanctification of the high priest and his sons before both God and the people.
Hebrews 2:11 KJV 1900
For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,
Since our Lord Jesus Christ was and is forever holy, the process of our sanctification with our Great High Priest has a much deeper sense about it. The nation of Israel throughout history have been seen as God’s people, His offspring, which is confirmed through Christ being of the seed of Abraham. The church also is seen as the child of God, as well as the body of Christ. One cannot argue the unity between Christ and His church or even believers as individuals. We have been set apart, consecrated and devoted to God and His service.
In Christ Gethsemane prayer to God the Father He prayed...
John 17:19 KJV 1900
And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
Aaron was consecrated first, (vs. 5-9) In which he took those garments for glory and beauty and the put them upon Aaron piece by piece. Each layer being seen in all the details of the skilled workmanship and indescribable beauty. He put on the white linen coat and girdled him with the colored fine linen inner girdle, he put upon his that beautiful blue robe with its pure gold bells, and pomegranates around its hem. Then he clothed him with the ephod, girded him with the gold, and colored curious girdle before attaching the breastplate with its golden wreathed chains, to the onyx stones which bore the names of the 12 tribes by birth. He then attached the bottom of the breastplate above the curious girdle of the ephod using lace of blue, so that the breastplate might not be loosed from the ephod as the LORD commanded. He placed the Urim and Thummim within the breastplate. Last of all he took the snow white linen and wound it as a mitre upon his head and then he placed the golden plate, the holy crown, with the words graven thereon. “Holiness unto the Lord”.
Through the public display of Aaron’s sanctification the people saw not only the great detail, but the worth of these holy garments that are for glory and beauty. They beheld Aaron exalted and set apart from all others, exalted above the people, and yet, he was exalted to the position of high priest for the people.
The more that I study my Lord Jesus Christ, the more knowledge I gain of Him, the more understanding God reveals to me to contrast but also necessity of both His coming as a servant where He had no form nor comeliness, no beauty, that none should desire Him, and His service where He stands exalted in absolute holiness, glory, beauty and wonder!
Aaron and his sons were sanctified together by the blood of sacrifice and the pouring of oil upon their head. The blood was the blood of that ceremonial redemption, the oil was the seal of that redemption and anointing for the service of God!
Galatians 2:20 KJV 1900
I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.
“I am crucified with Christ...” We are crucified together, sanctified together with Him, signifying our union to Him!
Because of this we...

will sit in ________________ places together.
And for the ages to come, will be recipients of the riches of His glory together with Him!
Ephesians 2:5–8 KJV 1900
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus: That in the ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace in his kindness toward us through Christ Jesus. For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Leviticus 8:14-17
It is important that we recognize that it was not sufficient for the blood of the innocent to just be shed... Aaron and his sons, placed their hands upon the head of the bullock and offered it as a sin offering. They made the sacrifice of that innocent animal there own and in doing so placed their guilt upon that animal. The blood was then applied to the right ear, the thumb of the right hand, and the toe of the right foot,of Aaron and his sons, signifying that the hearing, service, and walk of the priestly office had been ceremonially purchased by the blood and that it was now consecrated to the Lord!
1 Corinthians 6:20 KJV 1900
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.
Like the priest, we have been purchased by the blood of the Lamb, therefore, our hearing, service, and walk are not ours to control, but we are merely stewards of this life, seeking to fulfill the will of our Master!
Why hearing?
Genesis 3:4–5 KJV 1900
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
It is the entrance by which doctrinal poison enters this body which is not mine own…
Mark 4:24 KJV 1900
And he said unto them, Take heed what ye hear: with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you: and unto you that hear shall more be given.
Matthew 17:5 KJV 1900
While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
Revelation 2:7 KJV 1900
He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
The blood on the ear tells us He claims our ears, for how else could we hear Him speak, listen to His words, and give attention to His message?
Matthew 11:15 KJV 1900
He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Why the thumb?
1 Chronicles 29:5 KJV 1900
The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver, and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of artificers. And who then is willing to consecrate his service this day unto the Lord?
Romans 6:19 KJV 1900
I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.
By the big toe?
2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV 1900
(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)
Galatians 5:16 KJV 1900
This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
John 8:12 KJV 1900
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Closing: Aaron and his son’s were shut up in the Tabernacle for 7 days!
2 Corinthians 5:17 KJV 1900
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
Ephesians 2:10 KJV 1900
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.
We are separated by the gospel of Christ, assured through the indwelling of His Spirit, separated for His eternal purpose
