As we continue with the sermon series Un-defeat-able we are to look at this guy named Mordecia and how God brought him through against all odds. How he and Esther were able to save the people of Israel from an evil man.
Ephesians 6:12 ESV
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
As we get ready to read and understand this passage Haman is the problem, but not the problem. He is the tool being used by Satan to taken down God’s people or should I day try to take down God’s people.
In our lives we are going to be faced with people just like Haman who want to inflict pain and agony along with trying to get us to walk away from the Lord.
So let us keep the armour of God on and all around us so that we can stand against the wiles of the enemy.
The Lord has given us all that we need to stand and overcome our adversary, know matter who it is and what it is that we are fighting.
We will come back to Ephesians 6:10-18 later!
2 Corinthians 10:4–5 ESV
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
For our weapons are able to tear down strongholds and arguments!
Esther 2:7 ESV
He was bringing up Hadassah, that is Esther, the daughter of his uncle, for she had neither father nor mother. The young woman had a beautiful figure and was lovely to look at, and when her father and her mother died, Mordecai took her as his own daughter.
Esther tells us that she was the daughter of Mordecai uncle which would make them cousins if i am not mistaken. Both her parents had died and so he took care of her and would raise her.
Esther becomes Queen / a Vessel of the Lord
Esther 2:16-17 And when Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus, into his royal palace, in the tenth month, which is the month of Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign, 17 the king loved Esther more than all the women, and she won grace and favor in his sight more than all the virgins, so that he set the royal crown on her head and made her queen instead of Vashti.
Esther finds the favor of the king and he makes her Queen!
We cant look past the things we don’t understand and how the Lord will use them. Esther had gained the favor of the Lord and would become a valuable asset of Mordecai and God.
Right Place / Right Time
Esther 2:21–23 ESV
In those days, as Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, Bigthan and Teresh, two of the king’s eunuchs, who guarded the threshold, became angry and sought to lay hands on King Ahasuerus. And this came to the knowledge of Mordecai, and he told it to Queen Esther, and Esther told the king in the name of Mordecai. When the affair was investigated and found to be so, the men were both hanged on the gallows. And it was recorded in the book of the chronicles in the presence of the king.
We never know how the Lord want to use us and show us favor, we just have to walk in faith, trust and obedience along with being sensitive to the Holy Spirits direction.
Mordecai hear a plot to take out the King and shares this information with his cousin Queen Esther.
The Plot Thickens Against the Jews
Esther 3:2–6 ESV
And all the king’s servants who were at the king’s gate bowed down and paid homage to Haman, for the king had so commanded concerning him. But Mordecai did not bow down or pay homage. Then the king’s servants who were at the king’s gate said to Mordecai, “Why do you transgress the king’s command?” And when they spoke to him day after day and he would not listen to them, they told Haman, in order to see whether Mordecai’s words would stand, for he had told them that he was a Jew. And when Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow down or pay homage to him, Haman was filled with fury. But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone. So, as they had made known to him the people of Mordecai, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews, the people of Mordecai, throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus.
Mordecai only would pay homage to the Lord God Almighty and not not bow down to some so called Haman second in command to the king.
This would result in a plan by Haman to take out the Jews
Esther 3:13–14 ESV
Letters were sent by couriers to all the king’s provinces with instruction to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all Jews, young and old, women and children, in one day, the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, and to plunder their goods. A copy of the document was to be issued as a decree in every province by proclamation to all the peoples to be ready for that day.
Seeking the Lord and His Plan
Esther 4:14–17 ESV
For if you keep silent at this time, relief and deliverance will rise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. And who knows whether you have not come to the kingdom for such a time as this?” Then Esther told them to reply to Mordecai, “Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my young women will also fast as you do. Then I will go to the king, though it is against the law, and if I perish, I perish.” Mordecai then went away and did everything as Esther had ordered him.
Esther, Mordecai and all the Jew’s in the area fast and pray for 3 days to seek the Lords direction and what Queen Esther is to do in coming before the king to expose the plans of Haman.
When we are face with tough situations like Esther and Mordecai you must seek the Lord and find out what His plan is. Then you must follow it to the tee and then we will see the hand of God move and walk in victory.
Essentials to Walking in Victory
How do we overcome the enemy and his schemes, when we come under attack? Let us look at a few scriptures!
Mark 9:29 ESV
And he said to them, “This kind cannot be driven out by anything but prayer.”
Matthew 17:20 ESV
He said to them, “Because of your little faith. For truly, I say to you, if you have faith like a grain of mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.”
Ephesians 6:18 ESV
praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,
1 Timothy 6:16 ESV
who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. Amen.
2 Corinthians 10:4–5 ESV
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
Ephesians 6:10–12 ESV
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
Queen Esther After Prayer and Fasting
Esther 7:3–6 ESV
Then Queen Esther answered, “If I have found favor in your sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be granted me for my wish, and my people for my request. For we have been sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated. If we had been sold merely as slaves, men and women, I would have been silent, for our affliction is not to be compared with the loss to the king.” Then King Ahasuerus said to Queen Esther, “Who is he, and where is he, who has dared to do this?” And Esther said, “A foe and enemy! This wicked Haman!” Then Haman was terrified before the king and the queen.
Mordecai is Promoted
Esther 8:15–17 ESV
Then Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal robes of blue and white, with a great golden crown and a robe of fine linen and purple, and the city of Susa shouted and rejoiced. The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honor. And in every province and in every city, wherever the king’s command and his edict reached, there was gladness and joy among the Jews, a feast and a holiday. And many from the peoples of the country declared themselves Jews, for fear of the Jews had fallen on them.
Esther, Mordecai and the Jew were liberated and save from annihilation, we might be down and facing the worst problem imaginable and yet we are un-defeat-able in Jesus name.
When we are walking with Jesus the enemy may come with his plans to kill, steal and to destroy us, but with Christ we walk in victory.
