The Old Testament word for covenant is
"ber-eeth" number 1285: shows up 264 times in the old covanant
It means to cut
To cut were blood flows. "to bind or to fetter; a binding obligation"
The covenant in action is described by the old testament word hesed in the old and its equivalent to the New testament word is agape. Hesed is Strongs number 2617 and is mentioned 240 times in the old testament. It is translated as steadfast love, covenant love, unfailing love, or loyalty.
Sin is violation of the covenant of God. It is violation of the Law that governs God’s covenant.
Adam had a covenant of works with God in the beginning and the law that governed the Covenant was to be fruitful and multiply and not to eat of the tree of good and evil. Well Adam disobeyed that covenant and he died and all those after him that come from Adam. Its called the curse of the covenant. Its for those who disobey him.
14 and if you do not turn aside from any of the words that I command you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
15 “But if you will not obey the voice of the Lord your God or be careful to do all his commandments and his statutes that I command you today, then all these curses shall come upon you and overtake you.
16 Cursed shall you be in the city, and cursed shall you be in the field.
Breaking of covenant meant death and curse, meant that your life needed to be taken to balance the transgression of the covenant.
There is what they call a blood
Covenant is the giving of your whole life to another for the rest of your life. It is the two becoming one. Its not a contract but similar to one. You don’t give your life to the one your making a contract with.
Richest man in the world right now is Bernard Arnault. He is worth 230 billion dollars.
The poorest man in the world is Jerome Kerviel with a debt of 7.2 Billion dollars.
23 For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread,
24 and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and said, “This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”
25 In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.
