John 1:29 NKJV
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!
John 1:30–34 NKJV
This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ I did not know Him; but that He should be revealed to Israel, therefore I came baptizing with water.” And John bore witness, saying, “I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and He remained upon Him. I did not know Him, but He who sent me to baptize with water said to me, ‘Upon whom you see the Spirit descending, and remaining on Him, this is He who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.’ And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
This is not any other Lamb but this Lamb takes away the sins of the world!
This is 1 Peter 1:19.
1 Peter 1:19 NKJV
but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Any sacrifice that was given to God in the OT was suppose to be without spot or blemish.
God would refuse any sacrifice that wasn’t spotless. You wouldn’t give a ram with it left leg gone, or a sacrifice missing an eye.
Essentially you would give the best out of the stock.
without spot or blemish means that Christ was the perfect sacrifice.
Christ had no sin.
Its hard to fathom a man without any sin. Because if we are honest with ourselves sin is apart of the human experience
Its so woven with our experience of being human.
Some of us would consider sin to be our super power.
You mean in order for be people to think I’m awesome is to lie to them!
You mean in order to get someone of the opposite sex I need to to lay with them.
You mean in order to relieve stress I smoke a mariqunaa or cigarettes. Or take drink or a shot.
You mean in order for me to connect with people I become flirtatious and suggestive.
In order for me to gain wealth i steal. Manipulate lie on my taxes.
I remember talking to a gentleman in Hungry he said it was normal to lie in business. You didn’t tell the buyer how trash your product is so you lie about it.
Even in church we use these same tactics. Social awkward Michael comes up to you and ask what you doing after church they want to hang out but you say my grandmother sick I have to take care of her. But grandma been dead for 5 years.
Some of us couldn’t imagine life without sin. Some would say life is boring with out it. But what they are really saying they want to keep curtain kind of sins. And of course without the consequence.
There is the passing pleasure of sin.
Hebrews 11:25 NKJV
choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin,
Enjoy - means to hold on tightly.
Passing - Temporary pleasures of sin.
Christ He was sinless.
Hebrews 9:14 NKJV
how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
I wonder what John had in mind when he made this statement . “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!.
- Was He thinking about the passover Lamb found in Exodus.
- Was he thinking about the Gentle Lamb found in Jeremiah 11:19. The docile Lamb
Was he thinking about The Lamb led to the slaughter Isaiah 53:7
Isaiah 53:7 NKJV
He was oppressed and He was afflicted, Yet He opened not His mouth; He was led as a lamb to the slaughter, And as a sheep before its shearers is silent, So He opened not His mouth.
Or was he thinking about the apocalyptic, triumphant lamb found in Rev. 7:17
Revelation 7:17 NKJV
for the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne will shepherd them and lead them to living fountains of waters. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.”
Revelation 17:14 NKJV
These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”
Was John The Baptist thinking about this dominate, apocalyptic, all powerful Lamb.
Its very possible John the Baptist when he sees Jesus and said “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, He could’ ve maybe this has something to do with Judgement and destruction, to clean up sin in Israel. Or even the oppression that took place in Israel at the time from Rome. He probably wasn’t thinking about Christ dying for our sins.
Maybe when we think about “John the Baptist statements, “Behold The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.” we think about someone else. We think about those people who need it.
Or God relieving the oppressed. Or maybe God doing away completely of my own woes and faults.
Maybe doing away with things in my life that unsettles me and makes me uncomfortable.
Or inconveniences in my life. Like Christ died to get rid of traffic on 95.
Or Christ died to do away with the American government.
But God is more concerned about reforming you then He is the government.
Ah man Biden can remember his last name. Or ah man trumps going to win again, Ah man , Ah man.
God is more concerned about reforming you then He is your marriage.
God is more so concerned about reforming you then He is about your social economic class or your job or bank statement.
God is more concerned about reforming you even more then relieving you from oppression. He can and He will, but the big idea is Christ taking upon Himself your sins.
The problem is we are not beholding Lamb of God.
We are Beholding other things like these screens, or our bank account, so we want to do what ever it takes to stop beholding them but then we realize there no the problem I’m the problem.
Throwing phone out the window
I remember being so frustrated about the amount of time I spent on my phone. (Have you ever receive a notification talking about your screen time?) and I said you know what I’m done, while driving down 95 I threw my phone out the window. So then I switched to a flip phone. I was thugging lol. I used to work at Best Buy and my manager was so hurt that I had a flip phone he brought me a brand new iPhone. From that moment on I realize the phone isn’t the problem its me.
Pilate said,
John 19:5 (NKJV)
Then Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, “Behold the Man!”
John 19:14 NKJV
Now it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold your King!”
Jesus said to John and Mary the mother of Jesus
John 19:26–27 (NKJV)
When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”
Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.
To behold one another. Only when we can Behold Christ would we be properly able to Behold one anther.
John 1:30 NKJV
This is He of whom I said, ‘After me comes a Man who is preferred before me, for He was before me.’
When we see anointing in the Bible this signifies that God was “staking a claim” on the anointed and/or that God was pouring out His Spirit upon the anointed.
Psalm 2:2 (NKJV)
The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying,
Isaiah 61:1 NKJV
“The Spirit of the Lord God is upon Me, Because the Lord has anointed Me To preach good tidings to the poor; He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted, To proclaim liberty to the captives, And the opening of the prison to those who are bound;
John 1:41 NKJV
He first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is translated, the Christ).
Christ means Anointed One
John 4:42 NKJV
Then they said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”
Acts 4:26 NKJV
The kings of the earth took their stand, And the rulers were gathered together Against the Lord and against His Christ.’
Philippians 4:19 NKJV
And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
