WISDOM CRIES ALOUD IN THE STREETS part 2
As I come forward at end of worship

Reflections from worship
How valuable it is to humble ourselves before the Lord
Before God only?
Now think about this for minute how this should look
Now look in 1 Peter 5 verse 6

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you,
Isn’t this interesting, its not humble before God........but under the mighty hand of God
We have seen many verses over the last few weeks of special favor from the Lord.....over those who humble themselves
Here the humble get what ?.......exalted
Look at verse 5

5 Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”
The likewise is there because 1-4 is about the leadership in the church is to be humble first .......to exercise oversight without compulsion......not to lord over but to be an example to the flock
But look at this verse......we are to cloth ourselves in humility toward one another
So it seems here to be intentional..........to cloth ourselves in humility.......how would that look?
So we see two areas of special favor from God.....first

get exalted by God
exlated is …He lifts us up......He raises us up with dignity, honor and happiness

get grace.....the merciful kindness of God....His holy influence over our souls
And as we learned last week.....He gives us wisdom from being humble

2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with the humble is wisdom.

You think about this title .....which we saw last week comes from Proverbs 1:20.
God’s plea that people everywhere would come and learn from Him
Today for us we see people everywhere, going every which direction and we have the gospel to share to them that they also can learn from God.......His amazing wisdom

WISDOM - specialized knowledge, understanding or skill
Think about these two men in the bible
Joseph.....humble? under the mighty hand of God? clothed himself in humbleness before others?
Specialized knowledge ......understanding or ....skill?
Example of his story
Humbled first.......

HAVING THE WISDOM OF GOD
Humble - under the mighty hand of God and before others
Exalted - lifted up, dignity, honor and happiness
Grace - of the merciful kindness of God, His holy influence on us
Wisdom - specialized knowledge, understanding and skill
exalted........then grace.....then wisdom
How about Daniel?.....as teenagers ....taken captive in the exile by Nebuchadnezzar......

20 And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his kingdom.
Wow these were extraordinary people used by God......what would that have to do with me
Do you think God would want us to have His specialized wisdom as well?
In what ways does He use His wisdom through us?

GOD’S WISDOM IN US
God’s Calling (His skill to carryout)
Take a Stand for Righteousness
Special Insight in Troubled Times
Wow this all sounds really wonderful that God would want to do these things through me......there is also a danger zone or area......anyone want to guess what they would be?
Excuses to not answer His calling or to take a stand for righteousness
In those excuses we weave in our own wisdom....known as the wisdom of the world........but look from what we learned from the word of God the first place we could get off track first before any of these other areas

HAVING THE WISDOM OF GOD
Humble - under the mighty hand of God and before others
Exalted - lifted up, dignity, honor and happiness
Grace - of the merciful kindness of God, His holy influence on us
Wisdom - specialized knowledge, understanding and skill
You see the order of this is key to having the imparting of His wisdom
The first thing that has to always come is humbleness
The opposite of humbleness is ........pride
The bibles definition of pride is

PRIDE
arrogance, insolence, the concept of the inflated view of oneself, self willed and not humble
Resisted by God
Paul here in Corinthians explains the dangers of the world’s wisdom

20 So where does this leave the philosophers, the scholars, and the world’s brilliant debaters? God has made the wisdom of this world look foolish. 21 Since God in his wisdom saw to it that the world would never know him through human wisdom, he has used our foolish preaching to save those who believe.

23 So when we preach that Christ was crucified, the Jews are offended and the Gentiles say it’s all nonsense.
24 But to those called by God to salvation, both Jews and Gentiles, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 This foolish plan of God is wiser than the wisest of human plans, and God’s weakness is stronger than the greatest of human strength.
I think Paul said it best when writing to the church in Ephesis

16 I have not stopped thanking God for you. I pray for you constantly, 17 asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God. 18 I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.
