Building on the foundation

BUILDING ON THE FOUNDATION

Three times during the ministry of Jesus he raised people from the dead.
1. The first was a widow’s son and they were taking the body outside the city gates.
2. The second was a ruler of the Synagogue who had a daughter 12 years old that was dying.
3. The third was lazarus who had been dead 4 days.
Each was recorded in scripture by inspiration of God, for doctrine, reproof, correction, for instruction in righteousness”.(2nd Tim 3:16) We have no idea how many miracles Jesus did during his ministry, but we do know John stated if all that Jesus did was recorded it could not be contained in all the books of the world.(John 21:25)
The first was in public
The second personal
The third prophetic.
1. The first showed the power of Jesus, as many were afraid and praised God. It did not say they believed in Jesus, but they believed his power to raise the man. Jesus calls him a “young” man, as opposed to calling him just a man. This is significant because a young man would be 12-13 years old when he would be recognized no longer as a child.
2. The second showed the power by faith when Jairus came asking for help for his 12 year old daughter.
3. The third was Lazarus, this is where Jesus stated that He was the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he be dead, yet shall he live.(John 11:25)
1. The power to save
2. The believer’s faith to save
3. Only available to believer’s in Christ
Two belonged to Christ because they had not reached to age of accountability, the other had already made a profession of faith. God only works miracles with his own, the only prayer a nonbeliever can make is the prayer for salvation.
Today we want to look at Jairus and his faith.
1. Personal faith, abiding faith, glorious faith. We are told faith cometh from hearing, and hearing from the word of God.(rom 10:17) Jesus was with a crowd when Jairus comes before him. Here was a man who was a leader in the community, well known with much recognition. He has heard of Jesus and the miracles he performs leaving all his pride he falls at Jesus feet and begs him to come and heal his daughter. He could have used his position showing the crowd how he could befriend Jesus and ask for his help as an equal. No he disregarded everything and placed his faith on this Jesus he had heard about.
2. The faith that came from hearing, abiding faith.Jesus is delayed by a woman with an issue of blood she has had for 12 years. He heals her and as he tells her thy faith has made the whole, a messenger from the synagogue comes saying thy daughter is dead; trouble not the master. Can we imagine what Jairus thought, if only you had not stopped, my daughter was sick unto death and this woman has lived with her problem for 12 years my girl was more important. Jesus heard the messenger turning to Jairus he says “fear not: beleive only, and she shall be made whole.” Jarius beleives and followes Jesus to his house.
3. Faith that comes from hearing the word of God, glorious faith. Jesus has moved the faith of Jarius from hearing about him to hearing him speak the word. It went from a belief in Jesus to a personal trust in him.
When they arrived many laughed him to scorn when Jesus said she sleepeth. Jesus tells them that the only ones to go with him to the girl are Peter, James, John, Jarius, and her mother. Only believers in Jesus Christ can take part in the power of his might. We are told all things are possible with him if only we believe. He tells the girl to arise and her spirit came again and Jesus commanded they give her something to eat.
4. Faith that continues and is diligent. God tests our faith that we might trust him more giving him all the glory for drawing us closer to him. There is no action that we do thst does not involve some form of faith. Either faith in God or ourselves, or the world. Think about anything we do, start your car, turn on the water, talk, walk, breath. There is an element of faith that the action will occur according to our wishes
We are told in Ephesians 2:10 that we were saved unto good works which were foreordained. Each person is unique, God has a ministry that no one else on earth can complete except for syou and me. It’s not important what out ministry is, but whether we are obedient in fulfilling it.
Hebrews 11
6. But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
