The Promise of God

Fear Not
Psalm 27:1–3 “The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When evildoers assail me to eat up my flesh, my adversaries and foes, it is they who stumble and fall. Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war arise against me, yet I will be confident.”
I am your shield.
Psalm 3:1–3 “O Lord, how many are my foes! Many are rising against me; many are saying of my soul, “There is no salvation for him in God.” Selah But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head.”
Psalm 5:11–12 “But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you. For you bless the righteous, O Lord; you cover him with favor as with a shield.”
Romans 8:31 “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Your reward will be very great.
Genesis 12:1–3 “Now the Lord said to Abram, “Go from your country and your kindred and your father’s house to the land that I will show you. And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.””
Lamentations 3:24 ““The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “therefore I will hope in him.””
Abram reminded the Lord that he was childless and Eliezer of Damascus was his heir. He knew that the Lord had promised to make him the father of many nations, but he didn’t understand why he still didn’t have any children.
Your offspring will be as numerous as the stars.
Jeremiah 32:27 ““Behold, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?”

Questions and Faith

Romans 10:17 “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”
Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
Abram is known to us as a man of faith, not because his trust never wavered, but because God, the object of that trust, never wavered.
See Romans 4:1-5 and Romans 4:16-25...
Mark 9:24 “Immediately the father of the child cried out and said, “I believe; help my unbelief!””
The Lord told him that He was going to give Abram the land of Canaan. Abram believed the Lord, but he still had questions. Abram’s response was, “How am I to know that I shall possess it?”

God’s Guarantee

Matthew 13:3–4 “And he told them many things in parables, saying: “A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seeds fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.”
Matthew 13:19 “When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path.”
See Jeremiah 34:18–20 for an example of this kind of covenant ceremony.
Hebrews 12:29 “for our God is a consuming fire.”
Hebrews 6:13 “For when God made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself,”
Hebrews 6:17–18 “So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.”
“You contribute nothing to your salvation except the sin that made it necessary.” ― Jonathan Edwards
The promise for this land was not fulfilled until the time of David and Solomon.
