Proverbs 20:27 ESV
The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all his innermost parts.
Having Knowledge is thinking you can do it on your own.
When I was a freshman in high school I tried out and made the varsity basketball team.
I remember being nervous playing with juniors and seniors but I was determined to get a starting spot (by myself).
At practice one day I was attempting to show the coaches and upper class man that I deserved a starting spot.
I decided that making really good shots “nothing but net” was the best way to show what I was capable of.
This lead to me taking shots that I should never had taken and about my 3rd air ball. I remember coach Plyler blew the wistel and stopped practice and in front of everyone asked me
“Billy, who is your friend?”
confused I began to look around the court and started naming some of my teammates.
My coach laughed and said well I guess that is true, but no your friend is the backboard.
Coach Plyler was yes tired of watching my airball my shots but more so he was pointing out that I didn’t need to make the shot purely “nothing but net”. I didn’t have to do it alone.
James 1:22 ESV
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
Would it have been smart for me to ignore what my coach told me and go back to doing what I was? NO!
