Desperation
Reverence
Faith
The value of our faith is not the faith itself but the object of it.
Blessing comes by going through, not around trial.
Six Things God accomplishes in our suffering
Glorify God.
Dan 3:16-18, 24-25
Keep us from pride.
2 Cor 12:7-10 (thorn in flesh)
Build faith.
1 Peter 1:6–7 “6 In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, 7 so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.”
Cause growth. (Redemption)
Romans 5:3–5 “3 Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, 4 and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, 5 and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.”
Equip us to comfort others.
2 Cor 1:3-4
Demonstrate the reality of Christ in us.
2 Cor 4:7-11
You’ll never know that Jesus is all you need until He is all that you have.
Scriptures for the Afflicted
Scriptures for the Afflicted
8 For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself.
9 Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead.
Reliance upon the resurrection power of Christ.
17 For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,
7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.
8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ
9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which comes through faith in Christ, the righteousness from God that depends on faith—
10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and may share his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
11 that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.
