QUESTIONS I WANT US TO ANSWER:
QUESTIONS I WANT US TO ANSWER:
HOW DID WE GET TO THE OLIVET DISCOURSE?
WHAT IS THE OLIVET DISCOURSE?
WHAT IS THE RAPTURE?
I. TRACING THE STEPS OF JESUS
I. TRACING THE STEPS OF JESUS
DAY 1 (PALM SUNDAY)
DAY 1 (PALM SUNDAY)
Jesus and His disciples begin trip to Jerusalem.
As they approach Bethphage (beth -fa - gee)
Jesus gives instruction
Matthew 21:2 (NASB95)
2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied there and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to Me.
That is what Jesus rode into Jerusalem, which fulfills the prophecy found in
Zechariah 9:9 (NASB95)
9 Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion!
Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem!
Behold, your king is coming to you;
He is just and endowed with salvation,
Humble, and mounted on a donkey,
Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.
DAY 2 (TEMPLE DAY)
DAY 2 (TEMPLE DAY)
He curses a fig tree
Mark 11:12–14 (NASB95)
12 On the next day, when they had left Bethany, He became hungry.
13 Seeing at a distance a fig tree in leaf, He went to see if perhaps He would find anything on it; and when He came to it, He found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs.
14 He said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again!” And His disciples were listening.
figs were used as a metaphor for the Jewish people.
God’s judgement on the spiritually dead religious leaders of Israel
That knowledge is not enough, there must be outward fruit.
He flips the table in the temple because of corrupt money lenders.
Luke 19:46 (NASB95)
46 saying to them, “It is written, ‘And My house shall be a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a robbers’ den.”
DAY 3 (MOUNT OF OLIVES) Olivet Discourse
DAY 3 (MOUNT OF OLIVES) Olivet Discourse
It is a teaching that happened on the Mount of Olives.
A Discourse: is a lengthy and authoritative teaching on a particular subject.
There are 5 in the book of Matthew.
Sermon on the Mount ch 5-7
The Mission Discourse ch 10
The Parabolic Discourse ch 13
The Church Discourse ch 18
The Olivet Discourse ch 24-25
Which is a result of Jesus Judgement warning found in Matt 23
It is easy to know where these discourses end because they say: “When Jesus finished teaching.”
The Olivet Discourse is about End Times.
It is in response to a couple of question Jesus inter circle ask Him. When and What
We also can see a parallel scripture in Mark 13:3-4
Mark 13:3–4 (NASB95)
3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives opposite the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew were questioning Him privately,
4 “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign when all these things are going to be fulfilled?”
Their questions prompted Jesus’ longest sermon in this gospel (cf. Mt 24–25; Lk 21:5–36). Their questions related to the temple and end-time events leading to Messiah’s kingdom
Eschatology: the study of End Times
In order to understand the Olivet Discourse one needs to have a good understanding of Daniel.
To understand The book of Revelation one must understand the OT.
So many read this passage in Matthew with no understanding of Daniel.
Would be very confusing.
start reading Matt 24:3-5
Matthew 24:3–5 (NASB95)
3 As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
4 And Jesus answered and said to them, “See to it that no one misleads you.
5 “For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will mislead many.

II. Rapture:
II. Rapture:
Understanding what it is and When it will happen is very important.
What?
What?
Is a major event in Eschatology
In a split second every person who has ever trusted in Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Savior both Living and the Dead will be caught up to meet the Lord in the air.
Will be taken to Heaven to be with Him.
1 Thessalonians 4:17 (NASB95)
17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
Some opponents of the Rapture
Some opponents of the Rapture
Will state it isn’t in the Bible.
Our Bible is a translation from the original languages of Greek, Hebrew, and Aramaic into English.
So just because it isn’t in our translation does not mean it isn’t in the original.
what it means is that we didn’t choose that word for our translations.
Did you Know the words Trinity and Bible and even grandfather is not found in the Bible?
So where did the word Rapture come from?
1 Thessalonians 4:17 (NASB95)
17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
caught up is the Greek word: Harpazo which means: to take suddenly or to snatch.
In the 4th century AD the scholar Jerome translated the New Testament from the original Greek into Latin.
It is called the Vulgate or Latin Vulgate which was used nearly exclusively in Europe.
When Jerome got to this verse he used the Latin word: Rapio: which means to seize or snatch.
So we use the word Rapture which comes from Rapio: to teach the doctrine that Paul was teaching in this scripture.
So to understand it better lets look at the whole doctrine.
1 Thessalonians 4:13–17 (NASB95)
13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brethren, about those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve as do the rest who have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who have fallen asleep in Jesus.
15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep.
16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.
17 Then we who are alive and remain will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we shall always be with the Lord.
DON’T BE CONFUSED
This is not the second coming that is totally different event that will happen at the end of the 7 year period known as the tribulation.
during the tribulation God is going to pour His wrath on those who have not accepted Him and were left behind at the Rapture.
When?
When?
Could happen at anytime.
It is the next event on the Biblical/Prophetic timeline.
Nothing else has to happen before it will occur.
Throughout History teachers have taught that their generations was the one that would experience Jesus eminent return.
However, studying the Bible tells us otherwise.
See in order to understand God’s plan you have to read all the instructions just not some.
As Jesus is teaching here on the mount of Olives one could take part of his teaching and apply it all throughout history and it would make sense. But in order to do so you have to omit part of His teaching.
Matthew 24:32–35 (NASB95)
32 “Now learn the parable from the fig tree: when its branch has already become tender and puts forth its leaves, you know that summer is near;
33 so, you too, when you see all these things, recognize that He is near, right at the door.
34 “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.
35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
