Mark 14:1-16; Preparing the Passover

Sermon in a sentence: We must be prepared to deal with Jesus.

The Plot (vs. 1-2 & 10-11)

The Pharisees wanted to avoid an uproar that jeopardized their power or the status quo.
As a society we must remember not to follow every wind and doctrine. We see podcasts or social media telling everyone what and how to think.
The power that the religious and political leaders had corrupted them!
Judas considered the pleasures of this world more valuable than Jesus.

The Perfume (vs. 3-9)

This women valued Jesus’ more than anything else she had.
This could have been a family heirloom, a family treasure, or the family savings.
She was willing to “waste” this on Jesus. My mother was told that I was “wasting my life” getting married so young. I’m not saying marriage is the most important thing! But I am saying that doing what God asks you to do is not wasting anything. Don’t listen to the value system of this world.
The disciples didn’t understand the value of this woman’s actions.
They still did not fully understand that Jesus was going to be taken from them very soon.
We have to be able to love God and love others.
Jesus tells the disciples they will always have the poor. We must be able to love God and others with a proper priorities.

The Passover (vs. 12-16)

Jesus once again gave his disciples a command that required faith.
Mark 11:1-6; The disciples were told to get a donkey without much information.
Mark 13; Jesus tells the disciples that the Holy Spirit will provided them with what to say when they are put on trial.
Jesus provided everything the disciples needed for the Passover.
Jesus has provided a place in his Father’s house for everyone who has put their faith in him!
