Power in the Pulpit | Matthew 7:1–12

Transcript
Intro: If you have a Bible with you this evening, if you would please turn to Matthew 7. We are going to be looking at verses 1-12. This chapter is the last part of the SOTM, so we only have a few weeks left to look at the sermon on the mount. Today’s passage deals a lot with conduct. How do we conduct ourselves around others. Have you ever noticed that Christians act different than people aren’t Christians. And that makes sense. We should act different than people that are not Christians. How do we handle this? How do we handle that we are the outsiders and act differently. Also, how do we handle when believers act like those that aren’t Christians. Jesus gives us an answer in today’s passage. When we look at today’s passage, we realize that we are called to not judge with hypocrisy, and to pray for what we need. As we do every Sunday night, please stand as we honor the reading of God’s Word.
Verses 1-6
Verses 1-2
When we judge we are inviting that same judgement on ourselves.
Verses 3-5
Verses 3-4
We like to avoid acknowledging our own sins.
Verse 5
We don’t have to ignore the sins of those around us. we should help them, but we can’t ignore our sins to do it.
Verse 6
We should try and share, but not keep sharing with those who do not hear.
Transition: So we see Jesus speak to how our conduct should relate as it is to one another. But Jesus also gives us a blueprint of how we should approach our lives as it pertains to God.
Verses 7-11
Earthly parents give what a child asks, won’t our Father
It does not mean we will always get exactly what we ask for.
Transition: These two passages seem unconnected, right. Don’t judge and pray that God will help you. Great. Why is that important. It’s important because of what Jesus says in verse 12.
Verse 12
The blueprint that Jesus is laying out.
To do this, we have to avoid judgement and pray.
