The Opposer part 1

Intro

Sun Tzu- know thy enemy

its important to understand the opposition if we want to overcome it

the Opposer to God is talked about often in scripture and it is not something we should just skip over

The Serpent

sin personified

a serpent doesn’t normally speak

here he does and he doesn’t say exactly what you would expect from the Satan character

something we will see for the rest of the series

he acts fairly cordial when he is speaking to people

almost like he has your best interests in mind

that’s surely what convinced Eve

that maybe you are missing something important by doing what God has asked of you

if you’ll just forget everything that you know about God for a second and try to see past his one command, maybe you’ll find it

Satan doesn’t need you to do a lot, just miss by a little

The Sin

two brothers of different character

different treatment by their parents

different offerings and view of importance of God

God even seems to put more care in his relationship with Cain because of all of this

sin is crouching at your door, the thing personified is waiting for you

Application

Satan is something that exists and works from the beginning

something worth paying attention to

he doesn’t need you to fall wildly out of line

he just needs you to miss the mark a little bit

just forget for a moment the reason why you listen to God and follow him
