1 Peter 1:18-19
1 Peter 1:18-19
If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;
but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.
The blood has a more comprehensive meaning. God had a divine plan to carry to victory.
“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.
You see, my friend, Jesus gave us the keys to freedom.
For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.
Now the Lord spoke to Moses after the death of the two sons of Aaron, when they had approached the presence of the Lord and died.
The Lord said to Moses: “Tell your brother Aaron that he shall not enter at any time into the holy place inside the veil, before the mercy seat which is on the ark, or he will die; for I will appear in the cloud over the mercy seat.
“Aaron shall enter the holy place with this: with a bull for a sin offering and a ram for a burnt offering.
In the Old Testament we could not get into the Holy of Holies without killing animals. (Ain’t that a good thing that we don’t have to go around killing animals anymore?)
“He shall take from the congregation of the sons of Israel two male goats for a sin offering and one ram for a burnt offering.
“Then Aaron shall offer the bull of the sin offering which is for himself and make atonement for himself and for his household, and he shall slaughter the bull of the sin offering which is for himself.
We don’t need a priest to confess our sins to so he can present a sin offering for us.
You see, my friend, now Jesus came and freed us from the law of sin and death. Aren’t you happy about that? We don’t need a priest to confess our sins anymore or kill animals. We can go straight to the throne room of grace.
‘For I will go through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments—I am the Lord.
‘The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt.
When God said “that night”, he was saying “don’t keep going in and out of the house. God wants you to come in and stay put.
In the last plague, in order to protect, the Israelites put blood over the doorpost so that they could be protected and the death angel would pass by. The house was marked in the blood. Aren’t we happy that we don’t have to go around killing lambs?
And it couldn’t be any lamb. The animal had to be clean. It couldn’t be deformed, crippled or have a disease.
Just like the Israelites took that by faith, now what Jesus Christ desires for us is to take Him by faith on what He did on the Cross of Calvary through His precious blood.
knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers,
but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ.
The blood of Jesus is the ultimate price for our redemption. His body was pierced, this container of this very precious blood. He was broken and the blood flowed out. The vessel that contained this precious blood was broken and the blood flowed out on the Cross of Calvary. Can we give Jesus Christ some praise up in here?
An atheist once said he doesn’t see how the blood exists because the world has gotten worse with more sin. I say there’s a lot of unclean people on the earth. The soap is right by them but they choose not to apply it. It’s the same with the blood of Jesus Christ. The blood of Jesus is not getting applied.
Science says the blood of a father proves a baby is his. God forbid, there were 3 potential fathers of this one baby. All 3 had a blood test. These men were all lined up and the doctor said the one in the middle is this baby’s father. There is power in the blood.
God is Jesus’ Father. Joseph was not. You say, how could that be? The answer is simple. If Joseph was the father of Jesus the blood would have been sinful blood—just like you and I.
The Bible explains in great detail about how Jesus was conceived. Luke was a medical doctor. And doctor Luke, before he wrote his gospel, had an extensive talk with Mary, the mother of Jesus. He asked Mary, “How did you conceive Jesus?” I will paraphrase. The virgin Mary said, “I had not been with Joseph sexually for we were engaged when suddenly the angel Gabriel appeared to tell me that I would bring into this world the Savior of the world.” Luke said, “I want to know about the moment of conception.” And what she said, he wrote down in his gospel, the first chapter of Luke. She conceived through the Holy Spirit.
The angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; and for that reason the holy Child shall be called the Son of God.
In order to get the victory, the highest price had to be paid.
for “Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
The high price came when Jesus Christ was tempted just like you and I, but felt just like you and I, but was without sin.
You see, my friend, that’s what it took for Jesus Christ to redeem us, for He was without sin. No sin can stand before God the Father. Jesus Christ carried out the Master Plan. The reason 1 Peter 1:18-19 talks about silver and gold is that this is what they used to purchase slaves at that time. For silver and gold had the highest value of all precious metals at that time. In this time at least a third of the Roman Empire consisted of slaves.
Today there is a far worse slavery in the world and that is sin which gives satan a right to hold people in bondage.
Today there are millions of men and women addicted to drugs, alcohol, gambling, and pornography, which involves much sexual perversion. Every human being who doesn’t know Jesus Christ is a slave to their own passions. As a result of the fall, man is born in original sin, which means we are born a slave to passions and pride.
You ask, why does the power of the Almighty overshadow a believer in the blood of Jesus? Because the only blood that is called precious in the Bible is Jesus’ blood. Why is there power in the blood of Jesus? Because Jesus didn’t have an earthly father. The Father of Jesus was the heavenly Father. His blood had qualities that could not be equaled or copied by anybody. You see, Mary is blood, God is from the Spirit. It is easy to explain.
Godhood and manhood became one in the womb of the virgin Mary and this precious blood Jesus carried in His veins was for our redemption.
When you are covered by the blood it isn’t going to matter if you’re black, white, Indian, Spanish or whatever. The only thing that is going to save you is the blood.
When wicked people came to Jesus and nailed Him to the cross, the price for our redemption was made complete. His body was pierced. The container of the very precious blood was broken and the blood flowed out. Since then, there is salvation for the whole world. The river of the blood is flowing from Calvary through the ages.
This morning we took Communion to celebrate that sacrifice.
“He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
Tonight one drop of this precious blood from Christ’s sacrifice is enough to break every curse, every sin and give salvation. There is power in the blood of Jesus. Jesus Christ died as a sacrifice for sin. The price demanded was high, higher than we can even imagine. You see, my friend. God became man. The Lord Jesus Christ, He died for one reason and that reason was that He might pay the price for you and I, which He alone could pay—the payment was His own life.
“And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.”
Once again, I will say there is power in the blood of Jesus. He is here right now. Give your heart to Him today.
