John 5:17 “But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.”

I. The Path of Jesus. v.22

“toward Jerusalem”
22 And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.
His path involves direction.
through the cities and villages
His path involves doctrine.
teaching
His path involves destination.
toward Jerusalem

II. The Plan of Jesus. vs.23-28

His invitation. vs.23-24
23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them,
24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able.
A striving truth.
Strive
A strait truth.
strait
A sad truth.
shall not be able
His identification. vs.25-27
“I know you not” (v.25)
Who they called. v.25
25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:
What they committed. vs.26-27
26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.
27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.
Their incarceration. v.28
28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.

III. The Power of Jesus. vs.29-30

Christ gives rest. v.29
29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God.
Christ gives rewards. v.30
30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.
You may leave here in last place, but you arrive there in first place.
You may leave here in a shack, but you arrive there in a mansion.
You may leave here in rags, but you arrive there in a robe.
You may leave here in poverty, but you arrive there in riches.
You may leave here in an accident, but you will arrive there by an appointment.

Conclusion:

Are you following Jesus?
