YOUNG MAN, I SAY TO YOU ARISE!
Now as He approached the gate of the city, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a sizeable crowd from the city was with her.
And He came up and touched the coffin; and the bearers came to a halt. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise!”
My message today is Called “Young Man, I Say To You, ARISE! There are four observations I will call to your attention!
I. The First MENTION of the Resurrection!
And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her seed; He shall bruise you on the head, And you shall bruise him on the heel.”
II. The Best EXPLANATION of the Resurrection!
Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, He Himself likewise also partook of the same, that through death He might render powerless him who had the power of death, that is, the devil,
and might free those who through fear of death were subject to slavery all their lives.
III. The First DEMONSTRATIONS of the Resurrection!
Now as He approached the gate of the city, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a sizeable crowd from the city was with her.
There were three resurrections recorded in the Old Testament: The son of a widow in Zarephath by Elijah (1 Kings 17:-24),
The Shunamite Woman’s Son by Elisha (2 King’s 4:18-37); The Unnamed man whose body touched the bones of Elisha (2 Kings 13:20).
The first demonstration of a resurrection by Jesus was the son of a widow in a town called Nain, and it is recorded for us in Luke 7, so let’s examine it closely!
A. WHERE did Jesus go?
Soon afterwards He went to a city called Nain; and His disciples were going along with Him, accompanied by a large crowd.
B. WHAT was happening?
Now as He approached the gate of the city, a dead man was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a sizeable crowd from the city was with her.
C. What did Jesus SEE?
When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, and said to her, “Do not weep.”
D. What did Jesus FEEL?
When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, and said to her, “Do not weep.”
E. What did Jesus SAY?
When the Lord saw her, He felt compassion for her, and said to her, “Do not weep.”
F. What did Jesus DO?
And He came up and touched the coffin; and the bearers came to a halt. And He said, “Young man, I say to you, arise!”
G. How did the young man RESPOND?
The dead man sat up and began to speak. And Jesus gave him back to his mother.
H. What did the crowds DO and SAY?
Fear gripped them all, and they began glorifying God, saying, “A great prophet has arisen among us!” and, “God has visited His people!”
This report concerning Him went out all over Judea and in all the surrounding district.
IV. The Best INVITATION to a Resurrection!
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in Me will live even if he dies,
and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
And you were dead in your trespasses and sins,
But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us,
even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),
and raised us up with Him, and seated us with Him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?”
October 21, 1980, the Holy Spirit revealed to me that I was dead in my sins and trespasses against God and that I needed to be made alive in Christ! And I said YES to His invitation to grace!
Have you said YES to His invitation to grace to be made ALIVE in Christ!
He or she who believes in Christ, will LIVE even if they DIE!
Blessed and holy is the one who has a part in the first resurrection; over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with Him for a thousand years.
