Broader Context:
Broader Context:
Christ was humbled but we are to be humble like Christ too!
Philippians 2:5–8“Have this way of thinking in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although existing in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a slave, by being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
Philippians 2:9–11“Therefore, God also highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that EVERY TONGUE WILL CONFESS that Jesus Christ is LORD, to the glory of God the Father.”

Questions:
Questions:
So why does this matter at all?
If Jesus didn’t humble Himself then we would never know how much God loves us!
Ephesians 2:4–5“But God, being rich in mercy because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—”
If Jesus didn’t die for sin we would never understand just how bad sin really is
Romans 5:12“Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned—”
If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead we would never have a hope that the promise of resurrection was good - we would still be at odds with God
1 Corinthians 15:17“And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is worthless; you are still in your sins.”
Why does this matter?
The Gospel is what we believe to be saved from sin and death and to have eternal life because of Christ.
If we believe this then Philippians 2:5–8 means that we too must submit to God for His glory and for the good of others.
“Have this way of thinking in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although existing in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a slave, by being made in the likeness of men. Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
