CONTEXT

If Jesus is your King:

You must obey him even when it doesn’t make sense. - MATTHEW 21:1-3

Matthew 21:1–3 ESV
1 Now when they drew near to Jerusalem and came to Bethphage, to the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into the village in front of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Untie them and bring them to me. 3 If anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord needs them,’ and he will send them at once.”
Jerusalem - It was passover week. All good Jewish men were there for passover.
It is the peak, Jesus is going in to be king.
Bethphage - house of dried figs. Bethpage was near Bethany.
Mount of olives - he spent a lot times there at the end of his life. Overlooking Jerusalem.
two disciples - we don’t know who that was.
Donkey tied with a colt. -
The lord needs them -
The other gospels say that people came out and agreed to let him take it. So he didn’t just steal it. But a beautiful example of not knowing the plan, but being willing to still follow the plan.
Other gospels clarifiy it was a donkey never ridden before, which would not normally be your frist choice. But a king would only ride an animal that no other person has ridden.
Matthew 21:4–5 ESV
4 This took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5 “Say to the daughter of Zion, ‘Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a beast of burden.’ ”
Fulfill - complete
Prophecy - Zechariah 9:9 prophecy. - This reminds us that God has had a plan and working on it the whole time.
daughter of Zion - Zion was the hll of Jersusalem.
Behold your king is coming - Not just any king, but your one true king. King Charles cornation.
humble and mounted on a donkey - Kinda weird. Why would a king be humble and on a donkey instead of proud on a horse?
Kings usually did this as a way to offer peace. .
Horses were meant for war. Donkey were offering peace. He was offering peace.
Horse - The next time that he comes it won’t be on a donkey, it will be on a horse.

You must accept His kingdom, not force Him into yours. - MATTHEW 21:6-11

Matthew 21:6–11 ESV
6 The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt and put on them their cloaks, and he sat on them. 8 Most of the crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 And the crowds that went before him and that followed him were shouting, “Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest!” 10 And when he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, “Who is this?” 11 And the crowds said, “This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.”
