Peter’s over confidence

Improper self-confidence, like that of Peter, is the first step to a fall. There is a proneness in all of us to be over-confident. But those fall soonest and foulest, who are the most confident in themselves. Those are least safe, who think themselves most secure. Satan is active to lead such astray; they are most off their guard: God leaves them to themselves, to humble them.

pride comes before the fall
humility about ones own weakness is paramount in Christian perseverance.
“Humility is a strange thing. As a rule, once you discover you have it you lose it. Humility is like a rare flower — put it on display and it instantly wilts and loses its fragrance! Humility is one character trait that can never come out of the closest; it is not something to announce from the rooftop…No, humility is not something to be announced. For then, if you can imagine the irony of this, you have become proud of your humility.”
truly meditate on what it means to stand with Christ no matter what happens
had a friend in preaching school confide in me crying because he didn't think he could die from Christ if it came down to it.
