2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV): 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.
Today we are looking at faith over fear, and to often we know the words but don”t know what some of these words would mean.
I heard of a preachers son who
After hearing his dad preach on “Salvation” “justification,” “sanctification,” and all the other “-ations,” a minister’s son was ready when his Sunday school teacher asked if anybody knew what “procrastination” meant. The boy said, “I’m not sure what it means, but I know our church believes in it!”
often we know the words but we need help understanding the deeper meaning. today we are looking at the deeper meaning of faith.
Matthew 14:22–33
22 Immediately he made the disciples get into the boat and go before him to the other side, while he dismissed the crowds. 23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up on the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone,
Make Time To Go and Pray
Last week we talked about the importance of rest.
In our time of rest, we need to make sure that we are talking to God
according to Pew Research Group:
in 2014 68% of christians say they pray everyday.
that sounds awesome, but what about the other 32%
in the same study they break down by ages who is praying everyday.
18-29 years of age 15%
30-49 years of age 33%
50-65 Years of age 30%
65 + years of age 22%
This is concerning, as a total we see 60 percent of christians polled saying they pray every day but when we look at the age, all of our groups are praying super low.
WE have lost the importance of prayer.
Colossians 4:2 (ESV): Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.
Matthew 6:5–13 (ESV): And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. 6 But when you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. 7 “And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. 9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. 10 Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
We need to go back to the basics of our faith, and start praying every day. If you are not praying EVERY DAY, You need to make a commitmet with God today, God I am going to put aside this time for you and talk to you and hear fro myou..... and do it.
Without prayer, we have lost our power, our purpous, and our protenteal
24 but the boat by this time was a long way from the land, beaten by the waves, for the wind was against them. 25 And in the fourth watch of the night he came to them, walking on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” and they cried out in fear.27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take heart; it is I. Do not be afraid.”
Fear will blind your from what is in front of you
Paul talkes about being soberminded, and we hear that and go straight to being intoxacated,
being soberminded is about so much more, its talk about not letting other things take contol on you......
Fear if you let it will over take you, it will stop you, and it will kill you if you let it.
2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV): for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
Fear is not from God.... Self Control is. Which means when we face fear, we need to force of focus off of what we are afaraid of, and on to God who can help us
How much time have you wasted in your life in fear.
how many years has fear kept you from changing something that needed to be changed
how much time has fear kept you from resting or relaxing
how must stress have you let fear add into you life.
Take contol of the fear by tapping into your faith.
when you Let you faith grow, you fear will start to srinnk
28 And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29 He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus.
Faith will Cause you to Step Out
Where fear will cause you to stop, faith will call you to move
Hebrews 11:1 (ESV): Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
2 Corinthians 5:7 (ESV): 7 for we walk by faith, not by sight.
faith is not always what we see but who we trust.
I dont always see my answer, but i trust and put my hope in someone i trust, God
My fear is that many christians do not truly trust God in their problems, so they are not using their faith.
30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.”
Fear will cause you to sink
Proverbs 29:25 (ESV): The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.
Fear is a trap to keep you still
Satan uses fear to keep you from being the person that God created you to be
Proverbs 12:25 (ESV): Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs him down, but a good word makes him glad.
Fear will weigh on you if you dont take care of them.
fear stact on top of each other till you can not hold it any more
To remove the weight of fear, we must place our life, and our future in our faith.
31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33 And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Faith Will Raise You Up
Hebrews 11:6 (ESV): 6 And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
Hebrews 10:23 (ESV): 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.
What are the promises of God.
Don’t fear I am with you (Isaiah 41:10)
I will never leave you (Deuteronomy 31:8)
I will give you Peace (Isaiah 26:3)
I will teach you and guide you (Psalms32:8)
I will fight for you (Psalms 91:3)
Where Does Faith Come From
Faith comes from the Word of God
Romans 10:17 (ESV): 17 So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.
We are saved through faith in God
Ephesians 2:8–9 (ESV): 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.
Faith is seen in our works
James 2:17 (ESV): 17 So also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
Are you ready for your faith today
are you ready for it to grow
Let’s take that step today together,
