Big Picture Question:
“God has always existed as three Persons - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Father sent the Son, Jesus, to rescue us from sin. There was never a time when Jesus has not been fully God. But when the Father sent Jesus to earth, Jesus came as a human. He was born a baby and grew up into a man. Jesus is fully human.
This is our last week reviewing our big picture question and answer. Let’s say it together:
Is Jesus God or human? As the Son of God, Jesus is both fully God and fully human.”
Review the Timeline:
Review the Timeline:
“Throughout His time on earth, Jesus helped people and performed many miracles. All of these miracles prove He is God. The miracles showed that Jesus has power over creation, human bodies, and even evil spirits. Last week, we read the story about how Jesus cared about the hungry crowd and fed them with just seven loaves of bread and a few fish. Today, we will be reminded that God the Father sent Jesus to rescue us from sin and that Jesus shows us what God is like.”

Section 1: John 14:1-7
1 “Let not your hearts be troubled. Believe in God; believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you to myself, that where I am you may be also. 4 And you know the way to where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you had known me, you would have known my Father also. From now on you do know him and have seen him.”

Section 2: John 14:8-11
Section 2: John 14:8-11
8 Philip said to him, “Lord, show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” 9 Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. 11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.
Question:
Question:
What did Philip say to Jesus?
Show us the Father - You’re saying all this stuff about going TO God… just show us the Father and we’ll believe you
What was Jesus’s response?
“Whoever has seen me has seen the Father”
18 No one has ever seen God; the only God, who is at the Father’s side, he has made him known.
Jesus is saying, “If you have seen me, you have seen God.”
Because Jesus is fully human and fully God.
Look at verse 11 again…
11 Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else believe on account of the works themselves.
Jesus is saying, “Believe me based on the works that I have done.”
Jesus’s miracles were to prove that not only was he fully human, but he was also fully God.
Jesus’s calming the storm,
His healing the sick
His giving sight to the blind
His causing those who were lame to walk
His raising people from the dead
His casting out demons
All of it was to show that he was fully human and fully God.
Section 3: What does that mean for us?
Section 3: What does that mean for us?
God the Father sent Jesus to earth to die for people's sins. In our story, it was almost time for Jesus to die on the cross. But Jesus wanted to His disciples to not be afraid or sad. Jesus said He was going away.
Why was Jesus' going away for their good? [Allow responses.]
Jesus was going to prepare a place for them and then bring them to this place when He returned again. Jesus tried to help His disciples understand how they could be with God.
What did Jesus tell His disciples is the only way to God the Father? [Allow responses.]
Jesus said that He is the way, the truth, and the life. The only way to the Father is to believe in Jesus. The only way to be forgiven of sins and have eternal life is to believe Jesus is the only Savior. Jesus told the disciples that He is God. Jesus said that if they had seen Him, they had seen the Father.
How did Jesus say people can know that He really is God? [Allow responses.]
Jesus said we can believe He is God because we can trust His words and remember all the miracles He did during His time on earth. Only God could calm a storm, heal the sick, and raise people from the dead. Only God can save us from our sins and prepare a place for us to be with Him forever. "
